Money has always come out my account the moment I have placed my order, regardless if it is in stock or a pre-order. Did you just guess the answer?

Yep and absolutely no guarantee they are getting any stock on launch as Gibbo says, they arent a Nvidia partner. Could be January before some people see their pre-order if they placed it on that site.

No I didn't guess the answer. I was referring to other sites also selling tech and just about any retailer selling pre orders I've ever dealt with.
if theres no official clarification then ill probably try toi grab the FE AND grab the one i want from here and if the stock here isnt great i should at least get the FE one which actually looks decent anyway.

Didn't order from OC UK. I ordered a 3090 anyway, which wont be in stock on the 17th with the 3080 - final price is not known, but deposit is placed.

Thing is by then I will probably have already ordered an FE. If that happens and the FE is not dispatched by the time Gibbo confirms he has stock for the 18th, I will cancel the fe and order that. Basically at this point I feel whoever of the two gets me the GPU first will get ma moneyz

Its midnight for the FE isnt it? So stay up and order an FE on the 17th at 12.01 and then order from OCUK at 2pm. Keep the one which arrives first.
