If the release of the Ti is April we should hear something at GTC??

If they cant make enough 3080/3090s then why would they take on even more work?

While true, there are still thousands and thousands of people without a 3080, if they haven't got the supplies to make 3080 cards, how can they make 3080Ti cards?3080 Ti could replace the 3080/3090 which would also leave room for a full fat Titan using a fully enabled GA102 chip.
This would enable them to compete more effectively against big Navi.

As it currently stands, ocuk have over 5000 orders not fulfilled for the 3080.
There are countless retailers around with no stock and loads of back orders to fill.
3080Ti shouldn't even be on the cards in 2021 going into 2022.
They would not need anything more than they use now to make the 3080 Ti as it would use the same GA102 chip as the 3080/3090 and nearly all other components would be the same.
It would also give NVidia the opportunity to introduce gaming and mining versions of their high end cards by replacing current 30808/3090 cards. This could be a real money earner for NVidia by forcing miners to buy cards that are even more expensive than the gaming ones.
I don’t think they really had a choice with the 3060. The 60 series has a 192-bit bus and the only possible memory configs were 3,6 and 12. Obviously 3 and 6 are too low for this gen, so they had to go for 12.it would need more memory, probably be a 12-14 gig card. so if they are running short of memory chips why make a card that would use more, but saying that they did do the 3060 with 12 so you never know.
honestly i wouldn't be surprised if by end of year we get super or ti branded 3080's and 3070's and they stop making the non super ones.

I think the 3090 will disappear. 3080Ti will be the top gaming card at around £1000 - £1200 and a full fat Titan will be released with a price tag of around £2000, maybe more.yeah i guess, thing thats got me curious is how close will it be in performance to the 3090 as thats got what 10-15% over a stock 3080 so at what level will they be ok possibly gimping 3090 sales. or will the 3090 slowly vanish and the 3080ti is the new top card.

However, I think they’re stupid doing anything until the current supply situation is resolved. If you’re lucky enough to bag a Ti in the current climate, you could probably make the money back and more by flogging your original 3080

Won’t help supply issues. The miners will still snap up every Ti going, unless they gimp hash rates in a way that is totally impossible to bypass.Providing NVidia make enough to cover back orders the supply problem does not matter to them.
What does matter is maximising profits by targeting different parts of the market even if it means there is no increase in actual volume produced.
Expensive 3080 Ti dedicated to mining.
Slightly less expensive 3080 Ti dedicated to gaming.
Very expensive Titan dedicated to emptying wallets.
NVidia's way of making more money at the expense of the scalpers and everyone else for that matter.
Probably higher margins to be had on the 3080Ti.
even higher margin in 3090 so what's ya points
the reason you can't find any 3080 stock is because Nvidia is holding them to be sold as a 3090
If there's cores that aren't making the grade for a 3090 then slapping some extra RAM on them and selling them at 1K is likely going to be more profitable than at £650.
Especially if there's no FE model, all Nvidia have to do is let the AIBs sell a 3080Ti model and let the AIB makers carry the cost of the extra RAM - Nvidia can just up their prices to the AIB makers.
