I struggle to believe that entire production lines fully shut down for chinese new year - across an economy the costs would be crazy

As I said above, on the day you could see how many sold based off their "x sold today" notices their webshop shows on products.

wow, the money that must be lost due to production stopping (not just GPU's) must be off the scale
 
I assume it's same as UK and the Christmas / New year period where most places close for 2 weeks ... I had to order some new forged pistons in December and had a 6 week lead time which turned into 8 weeks due to the Christmas shut down.
 
It probably depends on the companies too. A certain Chinese market place(not sure if they count against the competitor clause since technically they sell GPUs, if a bit questionable quality) certainly hasn't slowed down their shipping, I've bought some adapters/cables etc from there over the past week or two and it's been the fastest shipping I've ever had from China, quicker than some local shipping frankly at only 6 days.
 
I work in manufacturing as a buyer and deal a lot with the Chinese, they do shut down and all manufacturing stops. However, they do still respond to emails even when off. The big UK player absolutely will know when shipments are due to leave China. It is also possible that shipments sent during CNY will take longer to leave the mainland. But I'd be absolutely amazed if the UK suppliers didn't know when shipments were due or scheduled to leave. I do know that shipments were still leaving China during the holiday period (at a slow rate) so it is possible that shipments will land in the UK during this time.
 
theres gotta be a scheme out there such as overtime pay, continue working during the holidays for extra pay, that way companies can address the GPU shortage this way, I mean if I was a sales director for one of these GPU partners I would have jumped at the chance the smash my sale targets and take advantage of the crisis by making and selling as many cards as possible, were talking millions here, big fat bonuses for CEO's make the product supply and sell, thats what business is, money
 
You have to remember that the staff live at work the whole year, CNY is the opportunity to visit family. I've not known any factory to work during this time. Even the big semi conductors close.

I had some optical gear arrive in 4 days from point of order so customs and ports are definitely not seeing any holdups.
