NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

It's the worst 80 series card in the last decade.
What would have been worse? And I hope he doesn't say the 480 because, while that one ran hot, it at least had a significant performance increase on its predecessor AND wasn't priced ridiculously more.

Even the pariah 5800 performed 40% better than the card it was replacing.

5080 (if you can even call it that) is a disgrace of a card.

I can call myself a loyal customer, but this time nvidia gone a bit too far

Yes hindsight is a wonderful thing. For me it’s not aimed at the customers, it’s aimed at Nvidia’s business practices.

Some people have a “skip a generation” upgrade cycle and just happened to pay their extortionate prices at a slightly better time.

If I didn’t think a 4090 was worth the silly money 2 years ago, why would I think it’s worth £1200 - £1400 used now. I would still prefer to wait for an MSRP 5080 than tale a chance on a used 4090 with zero warranty.
For sure, I've been on the same page as you - the 5080 is a massive turkey, and it deserves all the flak it gets and probably more.

But the people buying them shouldn't be mocked because they didn't buy a 4090 a year ago. Just like you shouldn't mock everyone who didn't buy a house in the 70s - "why are you buying a house for £300k now when you could've had it in 1973 for £9k"

Really interesting to see how RTX 5070 will perform, but looks like resale value of my mighty 3060 Ti is probably safe.

Bloody hell!

My parents bought a house for less than the current 5000 series cards.

And they used to say “you don’t know how good you’ve got it”.

I beg to differ

Well on that we sort of agree up to a point. Sorry but I don’t need hindsight and two year old 4090 prices to tell me that £1400 for a 5080 is an absolute terrible price for a turkey of a GPU.
