NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Complete BS. Used 4090s were already going for £1500 upwards second hand before the 5080 price was even announced.
Yeah that was because Nvidia cut production of new models months ago, now the 5080 is out and turned out to be underwhelming while selling way above MSRP thats made the 4090 prices go even higher.

which means 60 series msrp will go even highererer

Hopefully this AI craze has blown over by then.
When they realise people don't really care about talking and thinking washing machines, fake pictures that aren't as good as intentional art for serious products, Will Smith spaghetti and Gordon Ramsey memes. Yea, then it will.

Having a couple of issues with my Zotac card. I think I've resolved one which was a cold boot issue, where the fans would spin up but the system wouldn't post without turning the PSU off for 10+ seconds before booting up again. It used to happen on occasion with my 6800XT so I reset the BIOS and only enabled XMP and ReBAR which seems to have done the trick.

The other is odd performance in Darktide and Helldivers. The latter was a stuttery mess on occasion with my last cards but that could be resolved by a restart, however now despite a good frame rate in both games they just aren't smooth at all, with a juddering that makes them feel like they're running a lot slower than they are. The GPU usage is fairly low (60-80% in DT IIRC) which indicates a CPU bottleneck, but with the framerate (always over 100) it should feel smoother than it does, and I didn't have this with the 6800XT.

For comparison I loaded up Insurgency Sandstorm and locked it to 120FPS and it was as expected, then did the same in DT and it feels far worse. FG is off. It may be that I need to do a reformat which I hoped to avoid, but other games run fine (GOW Ragnarok, Halo Infinite, all VR games). Also lowering settings to the lowest didn't really help much.

I'll try clearing my shader cache again tonight, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Try changing your PCIe slot to 4.0 instead of auto in the BIOS?

and what is the benefits of running it locally rather than using the paid online ones?
Price for one, cloud is getting more and more expensive as they go. And locally you can pick and choose training data (or train it yourself) plus nobody steals your information and it's not being censored either.

I'm having a strange one, over the last few days my GPU clock sometimes wouldn't go above 800 mhz, I'd restart and it would normally fix it. Today it seems to be stuck at 630 PGU Clock and drawing 240~ watts max, and restarts don't seem to be changing anything. I've had it apart, re seated all the cables to make sure they were all connected and it doesn't seem to be budging.

Or competition comes in (way more likely and already happening, Cerebras and Groq as start ups with Google, Amazon, OpenAI and Apple all developing chips rn) to eat their lunch forcing Nvidia to focus on their core more again.

Reset your BIOS and make sure integrated GPU is disabled.

The die could not be much smaller and maintain a 512 bit bus as it requires the space around the edge of the die.
True but then again 24GB of GDDR is a bit overkill as is a 512bit bus, the 5090 is closer to a professional grade card than a gaming card, a bit like the Titan class of cards used to be.

The 5090 is a great card if price is no object, unfortunately when price starts to get factored in things start to take a turn for the worse.

Reinstall driver using Nv clean install option.
