Yeah it does have a native 12V-2x6 port and supplied 12VHPWR cable (marked with H++). But my current stance is that it's best to use a multi 8-pin to 12V-2x6 cable (purchased separately from Corsair) to spread the load (at least at the PSU end)

I think it’s probably right to say that using an ‘octopus adaptor’ into a H++ GPU socket is the safest option. <— ignore.

Personally, I’m comfortable with using a H++ socket PSU and a H++ socket on the 5090 (connecting with one single native cable supplied with the PSU - which FYI is an NZXT C1500).

I don’t think there has been any report of such a set-up having a melting issue… yet! If that set-up ever melts than that is the public death knell for this sort of connector IMO.

Palit gamerock 5090 in stock for £2,700. C.£500-600 over msrp. What a mess.

The only positive (and I'm scraping the barrel here) I can take from this, is that it's mildly better than paying some scummy, bottom-feeding scalper on eBay for one.

Nah, a single multi 8pin cable is better than an adapter. The only safe way to use a 5090 is with a massive power limit.

Oh, sorry, I misread you and independently misspoke.

You are intending to get a single Corsair cable, which goes into 2 8 pins at one end and then into the H++ at the GPU end.

Good idea.

I did (and do) have a 1200watt Corsair RMX Shift PSU.

It came with exactly what you are looking to buy: a single Corsair cable, which goes into two (micro) 8 pins at the PSU end and then a single 12v connector into the GPU. It’s an ATX 3.0 PSU though, so the cable has “H+” on it. You can see where this is going…

I bought the NZXT C1500 to get a native to native 12v H++ socket and cable solution for the 5090. It actually comes with two cables. So there was me thinking the 5090 will use two of these cables… that’s why these new PSUs come with two H++ sockets! Right? Right?!

Wrong. The 5090 uses a single H++ socket and, thinking about it, the existing Corsair PSU is probably the safest solution even though it was marketed as H+, because the cables ARE the same AND it’s one less 12v socket to worry about.

Bah, what a load of ****!! :rolleyes: :o :p

This is what my current setup is: x2 8 pins at the PSU. I'm thinking the best bet is get a cablemod cable with more 8 pins? Seems sensible right?

The revision has not been done to the 8 pin side has it?

Edit: oh god the spec has changed on the 8 pin side as well FFS!

So confusing!

I mean, I’m just figuring it out with the rest of you but I think the main ‘objectives’ for absolute safety with the 50 series are:

- the least cables possible (i.e. ideally just one);

- the minimum number of the ‘old’ H+ sockets as possible (i.e. ideally none).

- the least number of 12v sockets as possible (i.e. ideally just the one H++ socket at the GPU side).

- stick with replacement cables made by your PSU provider (to avoid RMA / warranty issues).

I’m not really sure if having ‘more 8 pins’ on the PSU side offers any real advantage, someone else here might know.

That's the first Palit Gamerock 5090 i've seen outside of reviews. Hopefully means the other place may be due a few. I'm so eager, but whats funny is that i intend to wait for the waterblock before installing. That's still 4-5 weeks away.

Hmm I’m not sure that Corsair have revised their 8 pin adaptors. If that was the case, it would have said so here:


Note what they say about different 8 pin cables generally. Some 8 pins supply 300watts from the PSU side.
