Have you seen the reply from Corsair too? They are saying its fine and nothing to see here.. even the smug reply to Roman.

They should be next to go on the gamers nexus chopping block..

They are a disgrace.
This makes sense. The same thing which makes the design bad, parallel cables shorted at both ends, means the current has to be equally split unless the contact resistance changes, the crimping is awful or the wire guage is inconsistent.

Seriously check your cables to see if the pins are loose like Jayz one was in that video
Mine is pretty new, only got it last year and it's only been connected to my 3080 FE. Not taken it out since then. So I'd hope it's still okay. But I'm not sure if I want to take it out to check and maybe damage it. :cry:
 
Yes, I have faith that we can at least trust what Corsair are saying about their own connectors.

Hmm well this post didn’t age too well…

The new Jay vid does show what appears to be some pretty horrible quality issues with a Corsair gen 1 cable (H+ - not necessarily a spec related defect, just a general manufacturing issue). Really doesn’t look very good…

In short, when you pull on the wires, the pins move backwards which seems, at face value, like it would be more likely to cause problems.

I’ve timestamped the most relevant bit (skipping the long intro):


When he starts pulling on the wires… Yikes.

Even if there is an explanation for it, it’s quite a spicy development!

Edit: I’ve just seen this was also posted in the pre-order thread, so sorry for the duplication but I think this is the ‘right thread’.

Nvidia should have tested this scenario. They know that a common scenario is people with these cables and 4000 series will be taking the cards out and installing 5000 series so why not test this and warn people to change their cables to 5000 series validated ones.
 
Cablemod told me to upgrade the cable but only noted connector changes when I pressed them. I also use a decent atx2.0 1200w ASUS psu which means I am confined to using 8 pin rather than anything native or H++.

Anyone want to congratulate me on my 1000th post? I am sure most of them were absolute drivel but I love this forum.

Even so this wouldn't be a problem if the GPU and PSU was able to load balance to the spec, or if the GPu was only drawing 50% of the max rated load for the connector

A lot of issues can be hidden simply by having the above two features. That's what makes the 8 pin cables and connections so good, they do perfect load balancing and operate well under their rated load so even if the cable moves it doesn't cause a problem

Disabled my alerts on the FE due to the melting cables, still feel regret at missing the chance though. Alerts enabled again...

Going to have to thoroughly check my new Corsair RM1000x before using it... Maybe I should have just waited for a 1200W PSU to be in stock, rather than hoping for a 5090 on release day.

The ‘defect’ shown in the vid doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with it being a H+ (4000 series launch) or H++ (4000 series revision / 5000 series) - the cables for both specs are the same anyway. It’s more to do with the cable being ‘badly made’ and the pins being ‘moveable’.

With all this said, I’m not an expert perhaps there is some ‘reason’ that redeems it… but it does look bad.

What it might mean though is that even though the spec is the same, it’s worth going with something with H++ stamped on it as the manufacturers should have ‘upped their game’!

If nothing else I think I'll try and find the other 6+2 pin cables that came with my Corsair PSU. Worst comes to worst I can use those with the adapter, even though it's going to look very ugly since some were doubles.

The H++ cable you get with new 2024 Corsair PSUs is nothing like the one in the video, it's a really nice sleeved cable with seemingly tight tolerances on everything. Also, I was just reading some posts from the R&D guy at Corsair and he seems to prefer the 2x8-pin into H++ cable over the regualar H++ on both ends due to much better heat dissipation of the larger connectors. You were right about the naming btw, they started calling them '12V-2x6' cables as it was confusing users that the cable name no longer matched the port name. What a mess lol. Personally I think we will see a THIRD iteration of 12VHPWR cables and GPUs go back to the old style of power handling. I don't think PSUs will change. That would really annoy people.

I just checked my NZXT C1200w 3.1, 2 ground pins are slightly below and 1 power is slightly above. NZXT dont do replacement cables and im slightly over the return window lol. Not sure whether to use it as it is pretty much 95% of the way there, or to cut my loss and buy an msi 1300w as in Jayz video, the msi was the only decent branded one there!

Also annoyingly, the 1200w only comes with 3 6+2 cables, so i cant even use the adapter that comes with the suprim :confused:
 
Maybe try a fresh windows install before the platform change? Just to rule out any software problems.
Alas I did, at first I just DDU'd the AMD drivers, then once I noticed the issues I did a clean install to no avail. Other games run fine, GOW Ragnarok is so smooth (amazing HDR implementation) and CP2077 with PT and FG is slick (despite only managing ~90fps).

I'm actually quite impressed that I had no issues following DDU with my existing install, just annoying that something's up.

Lowering graphics settings to potato levels does nothing (ditto CPU intensive ones) which still suggests something awry considering my previous experience with the AMD card.

My monitor (MSI MAG 342CQP) isn't certified G-Sync compatible but surely that isn't an issue (my friend's setup has a AW3423DW which has a G-Sync module).

Argh… that is so annoying. I’m sure if you message them via support they would send you a replacement.

I’ll check my own NZXT C1500 cables in the morning… it has 2 so should make for an interesting comparison. Thankfully, by pure dumb purchasing luck, it has six 6+2 sockets / cables.

Hopefully you should be fine having 2. I was hoping to send it back and replace it with the 1500w for the sole purpose of it having 2 12-2x6 and 6 2x6 plugs. Not sure why theyd sell a 1200w with only 3, for that power youd assume the user would be hooking up something beefy and maybe needing them all lol
 
I mentioned it many pages back, but I have stuttering in Helldivers 2 and big FPS drops in Darktide with my 5080 paired with a 5800X3D. In the latter when I do the GPU usage drops to as low as mid 50%, which is odd as it was smooth with my 6800XT, albeit at much lower graphics settings.

I tried them both in my mates system with a 7800X3D and they were smooth as butter, so it appears to be a CPU limitation. As both were smoother with the AMD card I can only assume it's either Nvidia's overhead in CPU limited scenarios or some software I have running, but I'd lean towards the former as I don't have much installed. Definitely pushing me towards a platform upgrade!

Potentially useful information, my friend's 7800X3D system has a 650W EVGA Platinum rated PSU and it ran without a hitch! Granted, the games above we tried aren't the most GPU intensive out there, but we still saw power draw well over 300W. I wouldn't recommend it with an Intel CPU, but a good 650W can clearly cope.

This is just a wild guess / hunch… but I’m wondering whether your issues in part have anything to do with display stream compression (DSC)… which is known to be a problem with Nvidia GPUs - it could be a new variant of existing DSC issues.

It’s interesting that both ran smoother with the AMD card… and I’m wondering whether you used the same monitor in both rigs?
