Surely the middle of 10 and 20 is 15?
Mathematically yes but I'd suggest that 5 is subconsciously associated with being "half" in some instances, and Nvidia wouldn't want people thinking their new cards were half of something. By using a 6 then you're avoiding a direct "half".
It sounds like twaddle I will admit, but you'd be surprised at the amount of psychology, perception and association goes into marketing and advertising.

More speculation that this will not be the only card in this range, but one of 'many', the big question is how far 'up' the line they will go, and do remember that there is an RTX equivalent of this card already.
I just don't see the problem with GTX 2050/2050Ti personally.
Except for the fact the 2000 series have ray tracing and these new cards don't. It avoids confusion.
So if the RTX2060 launched at $350 and NVidia did launch a 1680Ti or equivalent it should launch at $875
Anyone interested at that kind of price?
There won’t be a 1680ti!!!!!
Everyone was saying there wouldn't be a 1160 / 1660 but now we know there is, and it is in direct competition with an RTX card. If they are prepared to offer this then why not a 1670 or a 1680 etc. Remember that gaming is not the only application for graphics cards and these other applications do not need either ray tracing or DLSS.
Just separate it with GTX and RTX? Nvidia have done this to themselves, it could have been SO much more simple than they have made it. 2000/1100 series would have worked and RTX/GTX 2000 series variants would have worked in my opinion.
You'd be surprised how stupid people can be and not even notice the difference between GTX and RTX, especially as RTX is a new thing. Bear in mind we've already seen people commenting that RTX and RX are too similar.
I find the naming of these cards really quite interesting.
It's obvious why they didn't just call these the GTX 2060 & RTX 2060.
It's a psychological thing, as by calling it the 1160, they are indirectly making a statement (that the RTX 2060 is not only better cuz of the 'RTX' branding', but also the '2060' naming - as 206 > 1160) and it allos for the opening up of 'new naming territory, as an RTX 2060 and GTX 2060Ti, wouldn't make any sense, as some may think the 2060Ti is simply a better card than the RTX 2060.
So the reduced the numbers to 1160, so they can introduce the 'Ti' or whatever they want, moving it into it's own little 'subsection'.
It makes total sense from a marketing point of view, they want, at-all-costs, for their RTX line-up to be 'up there' as 'the better option', because they've investe heavily in terms of R&D and developers, to really push the whole raytracing thing.
It is smart, but I ain't buyin' it (both figuratively & literally).
It's not 1160, it's 1660 isn't it?

So there is a GTX1660TI and the GTX1660. The GTX1660 has GDDR5 and the same number of shaders as the GTX1060.
Prices apparently are $250 to $350!!
So it seems we have a GTX1060 6GB replacement at GTX1060 6GB pricing, with virtually the same specs.
I hope this is not true,as GTX1060 6GB cards are now under £200.
