Nvidia Shield

i use it to play games in my cinema room.

Connection is wired and i have no lag and picture looks just like i was sitting in front of my PC but 90" :E

Still toying whether to get this or not, my RP1 is old and past it, Amazon stick is connected to the bedroom TV but stutters a fair amount even though it has good signal up there for every other device I have

Would get this as my main media device for lounge and then my sons can do some gamming on it as and when they like as I don't currently have a console ..

Can't see anything else that ticks the boxes I need at the moment ..

Wouldn't mind the shield has the potential to be a beast of a machine with the Hardware. All that power and limited on what it does. Very limited Apps not an awful lot of games. For the price of it as it stands i wouldn't go near it until Nvidia pulled there finger out and sorted the play store out and updated the games. looking at the reviews a lot of the games can be played on something like Minix neo u1

Yeh not 100% sold yet. I'm wondering if I should just build a real small HTPC gaming rig from spare parts. Not really comparable tbf

TBH if your not into the gaming side an Amazon Fire TV 4K is a better and cheaper option.
All the UK catch up channels,Amazon Prime and simple to install Kodi and all for £64 as they regularly drop to that price.

I have a Shield. Love it, streaming games is flawless

Yep same here. After upgrading my patch cables to CAT6 and ditching the home plugs. Streaming over the net not so good. I'm with plusnet fibre and my speeds aren't fast enough for geforce now. But to be fair I bought it for streaming from my pc to my TV. Tested it with GTA V, Dirt Rally and Rise of the Tomb Raider. No issues at all.

If i have my PC plugged into my living room TV then i assume this device is of no use to me.?

I like gadgets but assume it offers no benefits over what my pc would be able to provide

Depends - this device is capable of 4k at 60hz, which your computer most likely will not be. It can also decode HEVC. So there are advantages, but on the whole, it probably doesnt do much more (in terms of kodi!) than what your PC can do.

can i stream my pc games at 4k 60fps (only have a amd290x so new games obvioulsy are going to be limited as far as frame rate is concerned )- but for example if i play fallout 4 if i turn down detail i assume my card could get close to 4K at 60fps but wont play it at that through my TV due to amd not having hdmi2.0

could i stream it though at 4k 60fps

Sorry, Ive no idea about the game streaming part.

The one in the link is full android (like your phone) and not android tv.

Im tempted to install it but dont want to mess about connecting it to the pc. I just want to copy rom across and flash.

Looks like you need to hook it up to the PC first as it flashes via fastboot.

Would you not loose all the features that the box is designed for RE Geforce streaming and Geforce now?

Surely if that's what your going to do with it you would be better off saving the cash and getting a cheaper unit that does 4k also.

I forgot to say, I used this method to root and install the 5.1 full Android rom, and I was nervous doing it. I was hoping there would be an easier way of installing it.

I dont use the Geforce side of things for the Shield. Have a few apps for live sports, films/tv series, music via kodi and a couple of android games. Other than that I dont use it to its potential. I understand what you are saying about getting a cheaper box but the Shield is the best out there at the moment and I just wanted the best :)

The shield is the best for Hardware but software is where it lets it down. Nothing much on it that a cheaper box couldn't do even the games can be played on a minix neo u1. And some may want a web browser. Which is hopeless on the shield. So in that regards its no better and the lack of google play apps doesn't really make it worth while to any android users
