Nvidia Shield

For some reason I can't cast to my Nvidia Shield, tried with my OP2, my HTC One M7, but neither apps or mirroring doesn't work. Oddly enough, casting from the browser on Chrome desktop still works.

Finally got around to fixing this. Uninstalled all the updates on the Google Cast Receiver app, and casting is working perfectly now.

Bought the shield 16gb - hearing too much not good about the 500gb model so opted out of that one.

Was a steal today with vouchers I had - couldn't refuse.

Problem I will have - is in the future kids filling it with games and 16gb won't go far, from experience with tablets 64gb is easily filled and I know that Marshmallow dedicates any added storage to internal storage if I select this method and encrypts the drive, I have a NAS for other stuff so don't see a problem there.

I would rather have solid state than mechanical storage for internal memory anway, I'm tending to think that usb sticks use different memory types to ssd's they need to be class 10 minimum, but would an ssd be better in the long run and cheaper, would that be right. I have 3 options - If i'm staying away from mechanical drives

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/kingston-hyperx-savage-240gb-ssd-2.5-sata-6gbps-solid-state-drive-with-adaptor-kit-shss3b7a-240g-hd-086-ks.html

Other option is simple 256gb usb3 stick hyperx savage

or inatech usb 3 enclosure with any choice of ssd from overclockers

All similar prices and I know android has trim but any potential issues with using either of these methods, the ssd's use one usb otg cable - would it work, I know the storage is locked to the shield permanently but don't see that as a major issue

Im still on 5.1 and have a 64gb sd card and a hard drive attached. Using spmc (kodi spin off) the shield plays music and videos perfectly.

Had my Shield TV box a couple of weeks now.
I use the GeForce Now service (free for the first 3 months) and have it hooked up to a 40" Samsung UE40KU6000. (5Ghz Wi-Fi router with FTTH High speed internet >50Mbps)

Not everyone's cup of tea but meets my needs perfectly and at less than the price of a descent Graphics card I get to enjoy 1080P60 gaming on Ultra settings.

A wicked little box of tricks and the best home tech bang for buck I've ever bought!

Just incase people haven't seen, Plex Media Server is coming to the Shield, along with hardware transcoding and apparently it'll cope with multiple streams simultaneously!!

Could well make it the perfect, best value box for a media server!!

I do not know if this is new or it could always do it but the fact that voice search works in youtube has really impressed me.

Saw that - would make an impressive Plex system. I have a server myself but friends are often asking about Plex and what's needed to set it up. As many don't have a server or want to leave a PC running 24/7, this could be a very neat solution.

Shield TV.

I'm waiting to see how it performs but I think it might just be what I've been looking for as I've been considering an Intel NUC but this would save me a good lump of money!!

I use my HTPC which is in mine and the Mrs bedroom as a plex server it runs 24/7 have no issues changed the drives though to 2 6tb WD RED PRO drives which Ain't cheap. Have plex home theatre and that feeds my RPI 3 for the tv downstairs for Rasplex no issues at all

My plex server is on my main pc which is fine but I would rather use something that consumes a bit less power really but still has enough grunt to transcode etc, this looks like it could be the one for me.

I'll hopefully pair it with a Pi3 for sonarr and in time for home automation software too.

what is the best tv streaming app on shield tv? the one that i used to use doesnt work anymore and all the one that i find doesnt do hd and have ads all over it.
