NVidia show off GameWorks effects in Batman Arkham Knight - Impressive

This has Ps4 wrote all over it for my purchase as i like the look of it. Hoping i am wrong but i get the feeling my 290 is going to get hammered from interactive paper of all things lol. The paper is just not needed but i liked the rain and smoke.

Will be interesting to see how this performs with dedicated physX cards (vs without). I have a 780 doing this. Maybe a bit overkill but I tested this in the only benchmark I can see utilises PhysX well (PLAGame bench) and the performance improvement when using a dedicated card vs not was quite staggering. This latter point/bench might actually deserve its own thread at some stage.

A good point. The last few games have had the PhysX effects running on the CPU and in fairness, run very well.

Second TX looking good for these effects at 4K. The game is around 15 on the MM for those that don't already have it.

Just ran some benchmarks on my pre-release copy:

6584547574 FPS minimums

Baboom, I feel stupid.

A preview of the new Batmobile sponsored by GameWorks.

But not that stupid ;)

Cannot wait for this game.
My holiday starts 2 days after this comes out :).

Devs I know this is a minor thing but please tell me that his spike things on his arms don't keep clipping through his cape like they have done in the past 3 games

Im wondering how physx will perform in this game, havent seen any major aaa titles impress me yet, either the effects has been poor or the performance has been poor. Granted i have not played every single physx game out there so im sure someone would have done it right...right? Batman games are suppose to do alright but my 780 didnt like it and neither does my 980ti. Funny part is with the 980ti is the game is so NOT demanding that it downclocks insanely causing all the physx effects to tank performance.. Very weird.

Looking forward to it anyway since i got it for free as i liked Batman: AA.

Who knows we could have overkill 64x tessellation for certain parts of the game or a tessellated sea underneath like certain other games.... :p Although I trust rocksteady not to be that stupid and expect them to do a good optimisation job and after the **** that nvidia got with the witcher 3 regarding hairworks/gameworks, I would expect them to do a decent job on their end as well.

Can't wait for this game, without even playing it, I already know that it will be my GOTY without a doubt.

The effects do look good but no doubt it will kill performance meaning you will have to turn them of anyway unless you got a dual gpu setup.

I just hope the game doesn't have micro stutter like all the other gameworks titles on my pc :(

Bad times for AMD.. This is why I am not getting an AMD until they pull their finger out.

So this is a lets gush over unrealistic and done before effects thread?

Paper debris which is just a bunch of junk on the floor moving a bit, done before, maybe this time it will actually not go directly through the player character, really wasn't enough footage or slow down to spot how realistic it was tbh though it seemed that some bits of paper acted more like bricks(ie heavier and rigid) on ice(sliding too easily) while a small number of pieces were randomly selected to fly around when contact was made.

The smoke, a batarang aimed at the ground deflects off the floor and causes a large and perfectly circular smoke clearance ring simply isn't realistic. To get that kind of smoke movement you would need to drop something perfectly circular and with a decent size.

The car skidding smoke, the smoke dissipating was poor, it didn't get thinner and spread out it just randomly disappeared. Then the smoke/dust being thrown up when you jump down to the ground or a enemy was thrown down.

It was as much smoke as we've seen before and none of it realistic in the slightest when physx is constantly promoted as being about making effects more realistic, not just adding more bits that move unrealistically.

Tbh i agree with the smoke being unrealistic. I like that it interacts with the player and npcs but besides that it looks ridicules. Rain looks good but i dont understand why physx is needed to make that kind of rain effect. I guess it just takes more to impress certain people myself included and that wont happen until hardware gets much much more powerful and we get more than just addon effect but actual gameplay altering stuff. Looking forward to that.
