NVIDIA Volta with GDDR6 in early 2018?

I actually think the Xbox One X will help 4K PC games development in terms of optimization of games, and both systems using DX12.
It bloody well should do. Is the Windows store thingy any good yet? After buying GoW remastered and seeing how the PC gaming community was treated, I have avoided that platform since.

The amount of bad PC ports still far outnumber the amount of PC games that run well due to developers' previous experience on consoles though.
I think the only contribution that the fake-4k consoles will make is the awareness of checkerboarding and other solutions that help to bring about better image quality at more affordable price points.

I've never actually checked to be fair, but I've never heard/seen a wafer with different chips on it. Is that possible?

Perfectly possible (and laying it out can be an art) but tends to be done not so much on cutting edge chips as the uniformity of the surrounding chips can impact yields (as edge interactions start to differ).

why have nvidia stopped doing refreshes?

500 series was 400 refresh
700 series was 600 refresh
both 900 and 1000 series new tech introduced

A number of 10 series cards have been refreshed with faster memory like the GTX 1060, 1080 and Pascal Titan.:)

Yup, they're both guilty of it. AMD are the ones who've done it lately, only because when the 480 first came out it was more of a 970 competitor

Probably because of issues the 480 had. And reviewers don't go back to cards already reviewed so when they fixed the issues and even managed to get the 480 chip to perform better no one cared. So they rebranded to a 580 so reviewers would look at them and yea they performed better but people was like its just a 480 rebrand so it still got lots of flak.

This time though seem they have done something similar again Furyx -> Vega lol.
