Obsidian New RPG Avowed

The more i play the more i like this, im not into walls of text dialogue but i do enjoy decent combat and exploring in a beautiful open world.
Honestly people need to make up their own minds about games instead of being sheep following their favourite content creators.
No its not a novel dressed up in a game, what it is is a fun romp in a fantasy world.

You would have if you stopped beta testing every single new release that comes out :D

Did the crashes stop ?

I have a 5080

Tried both RTX and Auto and cant get them to work

Even tried to force through NPI

Its the game pass version unfortunately.

I swear every time there is something wrong with that version. For example my ps5 controller won't work with it so I had to link Microsoft to battle.net, install the game on that instead and it works, wonder if that will sort the HDR too?

My TV says it's running in HDR when playing already though.

Edit: it's not running in HDR, still looks a bit dull, I'll wait and see if they ever add it, would really benefit from it. Never come across a game like this where you can't use rtx or auto on it. Yet it works on series x.

I dont know about going backwards, maybe staying static would be more what I'd call it, imo we really should be pushing the boundaries more than we are currently in games, its 2025, gaming has been around for over 40 years and yet we dont really seem to be making much headway in what we, as a player, are able to do in a game. We still have games for example with massively scripted events, like there is a quest to save someone who is being held hostage by a bandit but you cant just stand 40m away and headshot the bandit to save the hostage...nope, not allowed to do that because the quest insists that you must interact with the bandit. Lame.

Or, you have to acquire a Sacred Medallion of Darkness which is being kept in a box in a church, but you cant wait til night time when the church is empty, climb the walls , break in through the window, smash the box and take the medallion, because the game insists that you cant smash the box, thats not allowed, you can only open the box by acquiring the key and to get the key you have to go to the priests room and he will only give you the key if you do X for him (cant just kill him and take the key...thats not allowed) and so on.

Halfway through the 2020s, our games, ESPECIALLY RPGs, really should be pushing the boundaries of player freedom and allowing the player to think outside the box and come up with their own solutions rather than forcing a specific solution.

But thats just my opinion :)

did you play starfield? that was a perfect example of how games are not pushing the boundaries any more. skyrim in space was so accurate of a description. how bethesda couldn't figure out how to get rid of the constant loading screens is crazy. i worry a lot for the next elder scrolls game due to how little progress it seems bethesda has made since skyrim.

That's strange. Mine shows as active but moving the sliders for contrast and saturation have no effect.

It's not working for anyone. People are getting confused because it can show that the filter is on when it's on global but it's actually not.

Started this last night. Only just past the intro/tutorial area, but kind of getting Dark Messiah of Might and Magic vibes.

Which I guess plays into the arugments people are making about games not really pushing the envelope, given that Dark Messiah is somethign like 15 years old. But, I did really enjoy DMMM, and I'm also enjoying playing around in this one so far.

Parkour and exploration seem fun. Already found quite a lot of hidden areas/rooms and appeased my inner loot goblin. Combat looks like it could be fun when I unlock some skills. Bit early to make any other judgements, but reckon I'm gonna enjoy it well enough.

Gave it a quick go since it's on gamepass and done the tutorial area, I liked the combat but just something felt off so I couldn't get into it.

But it does look like my kind of game so may just give it a go in a week or two again

Did the crashes stop ?
I continued on series X for a while but really struggle with sub 60 fps and mediocre visuals so i had to go back to PC to try.
I reinstalled newest nvidia drivers via DDU and got one crash after about 90 minutes then i limited framerate to 60 and disables RT and DLSS and played another 2 hours without a crash.
Its way too early to say i have fixed it but i can take a few crashes, its when its crashing the whole system i dont like.

Thanks Noxia. Confirms my findings and saves me doing more tests tonight.

I have no idea why this is the case but as of this morning it is now working and the sliders are as well. This is on the game pass version.

Mine always worked, I wasn't confused as you said :D

Yeah but I saw someone else say theirs was working and when I got them to screenshot me their overlay lo and behold the values were grayed out so it wasn't working.

Followed by "oh yeah I thought it was a bit subtle" lol

Edit. Oh and now I can't change the values again, there is something odd going on with it. Can't be bothered to work it out. I think the subscription ends in 5 days anyway and I won't be renewing it
