OcUK Dadsnet thread

It’s frustrating that only girls shoes are all sparkly and shiny.
The boys ones are always black blue or green. His last pair had flashing LEDs but I made him take the ‘boy’ colour.
Damn you gender-stereotyping-conforming fashion companies!

Four-year-old son shoe shopping...

Personally I couldn’t care less what colour his shoes are. However, it’s always down to how the other kids at his preschool will react. Will they crush his self esteem? Interested to hear what MachoMan StandandBang GD Dadsnet thinks :p

PS yes I know his socks don’t match. Pick and choose your battles..
This is the box they came in. Why does it need to be in pink with a heart? Why should girls’ shoes be different to other shoes? I don’t see boys’ shoes called Sketchers Boy.
Total BS.

My son also (disapontingly) likes pink, although that's just a drinks bottle for now. He seems happy with black shoes. Funnily neither me or my Mrs bother with matching socks as it's a waste of our time but the kids Inuit on them having a matching pair (not with each other, I'm not going that far:p).

The new Leeds away shirt will go great with them shoes :D

Who cares? That's the perfect age to be teaching him the value of being an individual who gets to like things that he likes rather what he's told to like by adults, other children, and society as a whole.

Pink was the male colour up until recently (in the grand scheme of things) anyway.

On the subject of what his peers will do, they may well make comments, but that's when you tell him he can like what the hell he wants and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Some girl told my daughter that she was a boy, which confused and upset her, and so I had a chat with her (Riley, not her friend) and sorted her out and she's gotten over that.

Why disappointing ?

Seems I need to be clearer. Why is it disappointing they like pink?

It’s just a colour they like at a young age

Our daughter is sick again after seeing same family members. 3rd time in a row we've visited this year and each time she's picked up a violent vomiting bug. Starting to wonder wtf I'm going to do when she's old enough to go to school :/

Sounds like they don't wash their hands...

Yeah starting to wonder the same. I'm very ocd with hand washing and cooking area, so I guess she doesn't get exposed to much at home. Even though with my family she's always fine it's always other half's family that's a problem.
