OcUK Dadsnet thread

Mine just had chicken pox too, didn't quite overlap though, they each had it either side of half term which has made for 3 weeks of chaos essentially.

Both had it fairly badly too, lots of sleepiness nights and general screaming all throughout the day, both absolutely covered almost head to toe.

Never again!

Boo that's not fun :( However as you say, it's done now!

just received the email for nursery fees. going up 9% just shy now of £1,5k / month :(. lukcily the 30hours free kick in in April that should soften the blow.

who knew potty training was this hard or i should say no 2s are. no.1s been fine and no accidents during the night either even though he is wearing night nappies. but still refuses to let us know he needs a poo. anyone got any tips?

Yeah, ours is a bit over 2x our mortgage cost :(

Was looking forward to the 30 hours from August but unfortunately (not that unfortunately mind) I changed jobs last year and part of it was a tidy amount of equity, but thanks to complications with the company getting bought it's now being delivered in the next FY as cash equivalent and counts as income, so we are going to have to sit out of the childcare benefits (good problem to have I know but it stings a little to have a bunch of it eaten by childcare costs, on top of the whacking great amount of tax it will incur)

I have two kids - 7 and 3.

Nursery at £1800 a month for the little man ends in a few months.

I can’t bloody wait - will save a fortune

Nursery fees are ridiculous, as is trying to chop and change days, simply not possible. It means as a household, we are worse off once my mrs goes back to work.

Which is why often a parent ends up not going back to work until they're school age. This country does not support childcare well at all.

We're way behind the majority of Europe:

2 of mine have had it twice, must be lucky boys
My eldest hat at least three bouts and I still haven’t one the lottery, do we have to wait until he is old enough to buy a tickets for that payback?

Nursery fees are a total killer and the government wanders why we have a declining birth rate particularly in the middle classes! I wouldn’t mind so much if our nursery care was world leading but in reality it isn’t really fit for purpose and the only plan I have heard from our government to fix it is to increase ratios of kids to staff to save the nursery owner a fortune in wages and reduce the quality of provision!

Vaccinated both our kids now. Chickenpox is miserable.

Lad (5) has chickenpox, luckily it's just spots/blisters over last 2/3 days and no fever - he's been really good at not scratching - I know in his situation i'd be scratching myself raw.

Well having spoken to our GP he said to us it's incredibly rare - so yes you're very lucky. Even the NHS website says it's unusual. However as we've discerned at OcUK we seem to be very different to the rest of the the world ;)

My eldest (4) basically used me as his personal scratching post on Tuesday. He's right as rain today but still covered, hoping he's fully scabbed over by this evening in which case he'll be shipped into school tomorrow.

Our school have a mandatory 5 days at home from the point the spots appeared so can't send ours back until Monday.

In himself, he's actually fine and could attend and he's upset because he has to stay at home.

Guessing you know better about my children than I, so I must be mistaken. I'll let our GP know too

Its worth remembering that the chicken pox vaccine doesn't actually stop them getting it either. It will reduce the symptoms if they do get it, but it's not a guarantee protection.

(Yes, I would vaccinate too - but it's not a get-out-of-jail card).
