OcUK Dadsnet thread

My 15 month old keeps shouting cat, then promptly tries to dive bomb off the sofa and stairs. His first word was Cat. No matter how many times I tell him not to drive bomb her when she's sat below the sofa. He still does it. Then wonders why she's not his best friend and won't stay still for a hug.

Trying to lighten the mood

How do people cope with thier kids when they won't try new foods, at the minute she will only eat pasta, fish fingers/chicken and beans for a main meal.

Infuriating.

Don't offer then anything else., it's that simple.
We all eat the same thing and at the minute Emily is chips mad so we don't give her any to begin with until she eats everything else first.

Expecting that to be the situation for us at some point, right now she tends to give everything a go but 100% has favourites. If she even as much hears the word 'raspberry' she's ready to sack off her entire meal...

Nursery is great for the food variety to be fair, she gets a different meal every day for both lunch and tea which I think has helped.

Also very telling the people in this thread at 6am likely with children who do not care about the clocks changing...

I posted on here a good few months back about thinking about kids/timing when they're born and there was some useful comments and notes regarding "it can take years to happen!" well I suppose fortunately it only took a month or so :D

20 weeks now and going to have a boy (our first).

I also went to john lewis to look at prams /strollers/car seats. Looks like its up to £2k cost? We want one that is useful for" multi terain " dog walks and could be potentially upgraded to later have 2 kids in it (i see a few that do this).

I also get 2 weeks off work then going to take a later 3 months whilst she's off (fully paid :D)

Sounds like my 12 year old :D :D

In all seriousness - So long as they are eating - I'm not that bothered - they will grow into other foods in time....

Marketplace. Pram and car seat will last you 6 months or so before needing to change.

We have an Oyster 3 full system in the garage I keep meaning to sell.

Took the little one on her first visit to York today via train, went to the train museum (Thomas!!!) And to see "both" castles!

Talk about loving it, all I've heard is York, castle and train all evening and sleepy time.

Kids are bloody amazing

Please please please don't spank 2k on a "pram system". I think I paid £900 and I am still reeling in it. The best thing I ever got was a 50 quid City Jogger and a £25 MacLaren.

Edit: PS the car seat to pram thing - didn't use it once.

Pretty normal for kids to go through a "beige phase" with food. Nursery was great for variety for us too. Keep putting bits of food on their plate, don't force the issue and eventually they'll start eating new things and wanting to try stuff. It's infuriating for sure though!

We bought a dual pram (inlinr rather than the stupid side by side), think my Mrs used it once then really 2 kids in a pram make it heavy. We didn't buy expensive prams, but probably spent 6-700 on 4 (total). I still think my quinny zapp was awesome as it fit in the frunk of my 911 :D . Some of the ones I see people using seem to take up the whole boot, even of a bitlg car, don't know why they are so massive.

Been starting to ween the boys now they have hit 6 months. So far broccoli was a yes but that was their first food. Parsnip was a big sugary yes. Peas were a meh. Table manners are awful though. Uncouth little beasts.

Yeh as others have said, please don't spend 2k.. especially on something new! We got a full travel system thing new and in hindsight it was just a colossal waste of money, the amount of decent second hand prams you can pick up on FB Marketplace is great.
I'd maybe be conscious though of buying the 3-wheeler type off road things.. they are great but very cumbersome and heavy compared to a normal buggy that folds up much smaller. For us we got a normal buggy and then when our son was relatively young 0-9 months) had him in a front carrier for longer walks. Since 12 months we've had one of those huge hiking back pack things that he fits in (again from FB) and it's perfect, he'll happily nap in it but also means we can lug him around on decent off road walks.

Car seats I'd go for something like axkid, far safer than the swivels apparently, it's what we have, sturdy as hell 300 ish quid

Also slings....our little one is two now and we haven't bothered with a pram so far, cheap as chips.
Although may struggle with two unless you both sling, our lasses mate and partner do this however.

Most certainly don't buy these new (not saying you were saying that) - but my one grew so heavy it became useless after about 3 or 4 outings.

Yeah my advice is buy second hand when it comes to carry devices. Prams, back packs ect, you pay stupid money new and then they loose so much value. We had a phil and teds double buggy. Purchased second hand for £100 and sold it 3 years later for similar money. I think new they were £600 - £700

Vinted is a life saver for buying anything second hand. We bought the carrier - but also second hand clothes for the usual nursery outfits which end up covered in food/paint/snot/flour 95% of the time.

Yep. Vinted and facebook marketplace. Another goldmine is mums groups in your local area. My partner has gone to quite a few baby sales which are usually held every 2-3 months in a local school hall. Other people who have had babies recently are quite often happy to either give or lend you their stuff.

I reckon we have saved ourselves about £3k so far on our 2 in the first 6 months.

A full double buggy setup from bugaboo would probably set you back the best part of £1500 and we got it for around £400 all said. Theres so many different bits for them. Rain covers, insulated sacks, hoods etc.

My partner always gets very excited when she gets to work out how much she would have spent on clothes when shes spent £8 on about 4 outfits for each boy. Its madness how people buy baby stuff new. Quite often the people complaining about how expensive babies are and that they have no money....
