OcUK Dadsnet thread

The Evri courier is probably the person I interact with most when WFH due to my wife's love of Vinted :o but it has definitely saved us a fortune. Brand new Next baby clothes for under a fiver compared to £20+ in the shop.

We bought our pram/car seat setup from someone that runs a reconditioned equipement business on FB. Everything arrived basically looking brand new and cost us £600 as opposed to £1k+ for the same thing out of the shop.

I think the only thing we have bought brand new is an upgraded car seat as baby wasn't overly comfortable in the original one.

My wife's cousin bought us a mosses basket from Mama and Pappas over £100 and we used it maybe 3 times before it was no longer suitable, we'll either end up giving it away or sticking it on market place for a few quid. It's madness buying anything brand new but then we'd have nothing to buy if someone didn't splash out for it :D

I think the only downside to finding places like Vinted or Marketplace is things are so cheap it's a bit like "oh we'll just get that and that and that" eventually even cheap things add up and we've now got so many 6-9 month clothes we're running out of places to put them!

Vinted is basically people buying, washing, wearing, selling clothes over and over. My wife does it, she's always got stuff getting delivered, drives me bonkers WFH.

"it doesn't cost much"

At the same time she bangs on about the environment - you know these are all delivered by a big dirty van right love?!

Good quality children’s clothes last. My partner buys everything new and a lot of it is still in decent nick after being worn by our two boys. We usually sell through local parents WhatsApp groups. The clothes don’t go for much but it’s nice to know that they’re going to good use.

There was some drama on one of the local groups recently though. Someone sold a stroller for £40 only for the buyer to re-list for £80 almost immediately. The cheek!

They also rocket through sizes as well - so by the time they're comfortably in a certain size of clothing the following week it all looks a bit tight and you've got to buy another set!

We buy the occasional 'nice' outfit brand new (maybe once every 4 months??) but we honestly get gifted the nice outfits from family more than we actually buy them ourselves. Vinted second hand clothes basically make up about 90% of our daughters current wardrobe and we just tend to sell things in bundles once she's happily in the next size. It's worked quite nicely so far, I think for her 9-12 month clothes, all the Vinted items we bought for around 24 quid and sold for around 22.

Shoes are now the next thing we've got to crack, our daughter has just started walking so we chose to get her one really decent pair of shoes. 30 quid at Clarks...

What?

Edit: PS the car seat to pram thing - didn't use it once.

We use this, albeit infrequently. If we get somewhere and he's asleep, and we're only going to be out of the car for a short period, this is absolutely easier than waking him up and transferring him to the proper pram seat, just to reverse that 20 minutes later. The adapters arent massive so they just live in the cubby at the side of the boot.

That van is greener than 100 driving cars though  :D .

On the subject of vibted, we've got the kids some heeleys from there (size 13 and size 2). Looking at the size 2, they don't look like they've ever been worn outside. Seems like a really good website for kids clothes (realise I'm a bit late to the party:cry:).
We've had a lot of bits still with labels on

Trying vinted now but it seems like you can't put a location filter on. Are you buying it from Vinted rather than from the user directly, hence paying to have things posted is not subject to fraud, unlike gumtree/facebook.

Most certainly don't buy these new (not saying you were saying that) - but my one grew so heavy it became useless after about 3 or 4 outings.

This depends on the child (and your shoulders :p). Our 3 year old still uses his (dragged him up a mountain over the weekend), but he is very small (15kg), and I do the odd hike/wild-camp so I'm used to carrying heavier backpacks!

Haha, sounds familiar, yes, some proper bargains, although I do sometimes get fed up with the bi-weekly trips to drop off 5-6 parcels :(

Ain't no drama like a mums group drama. In one of the twins groups my partner is part of there was a big who ha because some of the mums accused the organisers of basically stealing money. They put on a fair few events and charge **** all for them. Think £4 per child and they put on some food and drinks.

If the organisers are skimming money they are the worst thieves ever. Probably on about £1.5/hr.

I quite often carry our little ones from the car into the house still in their car seats. Literally the second that seat touches the ground the little ******** wake up. They know. I don't know how, but they know!

Got my kids some ninja outfits for Halloween (both like them). My 7 year old son loves his and hid under my desk while wearing it (while sporting a nerf gun). I knew he was there, but he then started giggling, then farted loudly. Worst ninja ever  .

Our daughter is just over 7 months old and has already reached the stage where I can't eat anything in front of her without her staring at me chomping her lips until I let her try it :o
I was hoping I had at least another couple of months of my own food :D

Wait till they get older. You leave your plate alone to make a coffee and "oh, why is there less bacon/eggs/bread/etc...." On my plate? 2 pairs of innocent eyes just stare back.

Butter wouldn't melt.......

When I used to live with my old housemates their little girl would see me eating, toddle off into the kitchen, grab herself a spoon and then appear next to me smiling

They're like chasms for food as well, proper hollow legs.

Our daughter had her entire breakfast this morning, then ate a whole banana. Then I'm eating my breakfast and she's following me around like she's being starved. Proceeds to have a few more spoons of my breakfast then we drop her at nursery and she makes a straight run for the cereal there...!

Yea they're like hobbits.

Applied for my youngest Daughters Reception Place this morning

Can't wait until she starts school so we don't have to keep paying those damn childcare bills every month!!

Does anyone know how to calculate what hours are funded based on term times etc?

I had a spreadsheet sent to manage my expectations on billing, but they moved to a new tool which is presumably more accurate - but giving a completely difference number.
