OcUK DDoS attack - £10,000 reward

I'm sure lots of techies have been looking into this for you, but is it definitely a DDoS attack?

We have a couple of dedicated servers and suffered a similar problem a couple of months back, with our sites randomly (every few days) going slower and slower in a short space of time before becoming uncontactable. The host tried to fob us off saying it was a DDoS attack, but eventually after looking at the logs properly it turned out to be a buggy bit of jQuery that was causing constant HTTP GET requests on the server. We disabled the script and never had an issue since.

As I say, I'm sure you're probably right, but we spent ages trying to think who the hell would have the money and inclination to launch a DDoS attack on one of our clients and turned out to be perfectly innocent.

LOL if that turned out to be the case, i'm 99.999999% sure we will never find out

Can't believe the extent to which people have slagged off Ocuk's service on theregister article. I've bought from here plenty of times and not once has there been a problem. In fact I'd say they offer a great service  Mind you I've not had to deal with customer support...

Theregister sucks anyway, id take whatever is said on that site with a pinch of salt.

Hope you manage to find whoever it is doing this.

I've dealt with Customer Support and they were absolutely fantastic. I seem to remember someone in the comments saying that he'd not seen a bad review for this site since 2005. Seems to me that every bad customer OcUk has ever had has taken time out of their (busy?) schedules to comment on the article and say the attack was deserved. I bought some faulty goods from a competitor site once, don't think i'd wish anything on them though as (shock horror) companies do make mistakes. Toys and prams if you ask me.

Edit:- I too am very supprised at all the moaners, moaning about OcUK!

I've always had great service here, even when I've had a couple of RMA's in the past -always dealt with promptly and never with any hassle, that's why I always come here first when I want PC bits </brown-nosing>

I doubt it has much to do with the shop but more the forums. I mean there was a comment on that site from someone who was slagging off OcUK but didn't want to say there name for fear of banning/what OcUK would do to them. That's pretty pathetic and rude imo. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, what gives you the right to say it anonymously on the net.

But come on, it blatantly people that have been banned from the forums. There was a link in the comments to a thread on AVforums. If you read all the way through the thread it sounds like a customer actually got his pc upgraded free of charge for any inconvenience and was very happy with the service. We are talking about a big upgrade as well, 4GB or RAM to 8GB, better PSU, etc.

Love the comments about how the employees drive nice cars. I guess some people are jealous that their job doesn't pay well. :D

That was me sticking up for OcUK - Thought i'd stick my oar in on El Reg comments, I've had a lousy experience with a company recently, but at least these people actually GET a response when they complain to OcUK!

This other company (i can name if Dons OK it) couldn't be bothered to respond to a posted letter of complaint. Ah well, their loss

/Scratches head
/Thinks a bit more

Spie has a nice Q7, but I think that's where it ends.

Even the directors only have an old Vectra and a very old Fiat :)

I'd bet money that the Majority of those are made by between 5 - 12 hard core OcUk Haters & there many spurious usernames & email addresses.
Like I said before, They have No life & nowt better to do, I Pity them.

The fake Gibbo post about Spie in his speedboat raised a smile :p

Personally I couldn't care whether Spie has a speedboat or not, if he has built up a business and has the money to do so then who's to stop him?
Hope it all gets sorted soon, today is the first time I've been able to get on the forum properly for a few days - missing my forum fix.

Resistance is futile, they will adapt, they have adapted. We need to re modulate shields but they adapt too fast :(

the modulation will have to occur after every hit this should give us up to 2 minutes of shields any more ideas mr willhub

Dilithium crystals charged, warp drives engaged, steady at warp factor 9!
