** OcUK EXCLUSIVE: SUPERFLOWER POWER SUPPLIES NOW IN STOCK!! **

Sabnock, you have another option.
You can always get a black psu and use a white vinyl wrap on it.
I've seen some of those vinyl tapes and they look so good.
I am doing a Case Labs build myself and going to use some of those wraps there.

Brilliant PSU ive had my Leadex 1000w gold just over a month, bought on 7th jan, however this morning I fired up my pc to be met with a nasty metallic squealing noise coming from the psu fan, its attempting to spin and failing repeatedly, with the odd squeal noise.

No choice but to RMA it, hasnt dented my opinion of this product though, still the best psu ive owned

Sorry to hear you have troubles with this PSU. Mostly any noise should come from the fan and from having a 1200W Leadex myself its practically silent, did you observe if this happened under certain loads?

Happens as soon as the pc is booted up, and then sporadically every 15 seconds or so. I had a look and the fan is not spinning, it is attempting to but failing

I'm more than happy with my enermax platimax 1350w, but out of interest, how would a similar rated wattage one of these compare?

The enermax is running 3x r290, and a lot of other gubbings, and if I had to have a complaint, it is that you can hear it when things heat up. Like a faint clicking that you can only hear when other fans are silent. Not really a complaint though as it's pushing quite a bit of juice : )

Why is there nothing fully modular below the 1000 watt version and above 550 watt? Do Superflower just not make them?

I would have thought there was a market for a quality Superflower modular 750/850 watt PSU.

Did you use the cable that OcUK supplied separately (one in the box is only 2-prong) to provide the right current?

When it starts up it will be pre-testing the fan because it doesn't kick in until the PSU reaches 55c. From the box it states: "The cooling fan will start operating when ambient temperatures reaches critical point T1 (55C/131F). The cooling fan RPM will auto-adjust according to the actual ambient temperature within the critical point T1 to T2 (55C/131F to 65C/149F). The cooling fan will reach maximum speed 1500 RPM when ambient temperatures reaches to critical point T2 (65C/149F), the cooling fan will stop completely when the ambient temperatures drops below the critical point T4 (45C/113F)."

The amount of these that I've seen as faulty is crazy, struck them off my list now, will get something else!

Seasonic's are very, very reliable and what I would have bought (X-series) if these weren't an option.

Leadex are platinum rated, plenty of juice on tap, large quiet 140mm fan, plus the cables are top quality. It was the Johnny Guru review of the 1000W that made my mind up, that and 8Pack & Gibbo's testing with four 290's :)

Weird I booted my PC up earlier and the noise is gone, so definitely intermittent. Not sure what to do now, I only game on the PC and I'm about to swap my ref 290 for a better cooled one, so not sure the ambient temps will ever reach high enough to kick the fan into life? But it did sound nasty this morning when I cold booted it. Think I was using an existing kettle lead that powered 2 other psu ok, a 700 and a 750w, so this is the 3rd psu I've used it on.

I will say tho the psu is located in the Enthoo primos space behind and below the mobo and as a result the fan grill almost touches the filter on the door panel, perhaps removing this might help? Shame there's not a way to force the fan to spin to see if it creates the nasty noise

SiDeards73, good to know the issue has reduced somewhat and perhaps an external factor. The fan should have no obstacles because at the moment you're troubleshooting metallic sounds and the filter on the panel could give that sound, may not be that close to touch but close enough to cause vibrations. If this isn't the cause I wouldn't muck about, RMA the PSU and let the experts deduce from the problem.

To get the PSU to spin up you need to create a dummy load, normally involving lightbulbs but that's a farce and not for everyone. Just loop say Metro 2033 AND Heaven 4.0/Valley and keep the room sealed as the heat will be retained, the smaller the room the better and pop the heating on full too. Although the system wattage will be around 450W if OC'd the increase in natural load should push it safely nearer point T1 until the fan is activated. There is another method to push it but it can cause issues and why I'll not suggest it.

Just had a look its in ECO mode, if i flip it into AUTO the Fan makes a nasty grinding noise, i think the PSU itself is fine, it just sounds like the fan is not working as it should.

Will whip it out and box it up to be sent back.

When did you buy it? Looks like there could've been a batch of faulty fans, probably an isolated problem.
