OcUK Forums Changes

How about a forum dedicated to shop matters?

Ive seen it on other forums where you can post about problems with your order and such and get someone from the shop to answer.

Maybe not a truely open forum but only those who have accounts with ocuk can access it if that is possible and make it so that only the thread starter and a mod / shop person can post in it to stop everyone else jumping in when its not their business.

Actually so would I. Things get said in the heat of the moment and it all goes pear-shaped. But, there is a problem. A number of those banned members decided to take matters much further and publically said (and in some cases still are saying) some pretty nasty stuff. I can't see a way round that one

That's a real shame. It's understandable of course, but it's still a shame :(. Some great threads/banter/meets going amiss.

I'd also like to see some sort of add-on, where you click a computer near a user's name (ie: near the RTM button), and a list of that user's computer specs and details opens up. That would be so good to see!

I don't want to get told of for this, but the h-s* forums have this, and it is quite a nifty idea, it means that sigs can just be images, and you can still show off your gear. I'm not saying people should not have their systems in their sigs, but if they want to show an image they like as well as the specs sometimes it just isn't possible. :)

Can we have an avatar for us ladies please. :D

I don't want a "ladies" avatar, where is the need for it? We have had this discussion in the past and always decided against it and i would definitely be against it if it came up for the vote.
Some ladies here prefer the quiet life.

The only thing I can think of would be some kind of 18+ forum as already mentioned, but I highly highly doubt that would ever be done.

Other than that, there ain't anything I can think of. New avatars would be okay I guess, but are really only a novelty.

Oh and I quite like the idea of a Financial forum but I can't see it taking off, or is that just me?

How about my suggestion of Bonnie Parker above? She's a real bone fide female gangster.
Yeah it's not bad (though not the best quality - mind you there probably aren't many pictures of her :)), not as good as my suggestion though :p :D

Of course if there was aavatar for the Ladies it's not like you would be forced to use it, you could still use any of the others (post count permitting).

Oh and the SA, can we have the bodybuilders and bikers in their own forum? but i suppose thats just me being miserable but the ammount of creatine/two wheeled threads gets daft in there sometimes

with some specific mods in place (i have an idea for atleast 1)

actually no. just have 1 or 2 mods with some experience and knowledge and willingness to mod in SA for it.

But the whole point is to have a choice.

You don't have to choose a 'ladies' avatar, you would have the choice.

That happened after the big nuke.

Some people just dont take a hint.

Some people you just dont want back.

Ok apologies I wasn't around then, if it's been done before and failed :(

I just thought from reading other places it's clear that some regret whats happened even those that make the most noise. More than likely due to realising what they lost.

I miss some of those guys and thought it would be nice to offer a truce, but like I said I wasn't here the last time and know little of the history.

I think the amnesty for banned members would be a good thing, although I can imagine some people will have burned their bridges.

I would suggest a one off, week long amnesty, where anyone who wanted to return could email you directly and ask for their account to be re-instated. It would be your choice to allow them back or not, so preventing anyone who had really overstepped the line from returning.

Other than that, nothing really - definitely not interested in more avatars or larger/animated sigs. I turn them all off anyway.

I would like to see -

1. A laptop forum
2. Split HTML, Graphics & Programming into seperate forums Graphics and Programming

Don't have time to read the whole thread so I apologise if these points have already been covered.

1. Auto-filter swear words. I don't understand why things like *** (Quoted for Truth) and *** (For the Win) are filtered but swear words aren't. Surely it would make the moderators jobs easier and the forums even more family friendly.

2. Allow OPs to close their own threads.

3. Automatically remove posts after they receive a certain amount of RTMs. I don't know if it would be possible but it could help to get rid of some of the less friendly posts.

I can't see that happening. If you get banned for something considered fairly minor and then spend the next year or more being as hateful as you possibly can, then is that the type of person who would want to post here again? Put a few of these people together and it gets (and has got) totally out of control.

Pretty much perfect the way it is, maybe some more colour schemes other than blue? :D

MM as said a thousand times, could use a bit of tightenting and tweaking, everything else stays pretty on topic, but i would hate to see GD become somewhere thats not basically a "fun mess" its nice to have somewhere to shoot the random (and it couldn't be more random than GD) breeze, as long as it stays PG13 with the pics/language, swearing and boobies etc.. doesn't bother me, but i know many find it not good for a public forum, especially one linked to a high profile shop/business site, but in all honesty, things are pretty damn good here as they are.

You're already doing a good job here :D just keep doing that! :D

Members market, members market, members market. By that I mean much stricter entry requirements as has been said - longer period of registration time, more posts and content/quality of posts to be taken into consideration too.

Bar that the forum is run pretty well and the rules are for the benefit of it (no swearing for example).

:)
