Saturday is best for me, and even that will take some blagging with the Mrs!

Feel free to tweak the route, I'm not the boss of this! I was just throwing something together. I don't know the area, so if someone wants to post something different then feel free! My usual "long" rides are 40-50 miles with 2-4000 feet of climbing, so anything more than that will be a bit more special! A metric with 5k feet would be awesome if we can put it together.

I should have a little time in work tomorrow so I'll post up a couple of possible routes - one based on yours and at least one other based on other routes I do in the area. All just up for discussion/modification of course :)

Just trying to base something off your route Von. Is the A6 coming out of Buxton a nice route? There are some other roads around there that look more tempting but I don't know the area so perhaps there's something I'm missing.

edit: Googled it and the A6 sucks around there too. I'm going to suggest an alternative route but obviously it's all just up for the vote and all that.

edit2: Kind of thinking we should go past here simply as it has my forum initials: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.3519346,-1.6923099,17z

Here's a route that avoids most A roads where possible (though still sticks to decently surfaced roads). There are a fair few quiet country roads whilst in the Peaks.

The very end involves a long gentle downhill along the A6 to get back to Stockport. I find coming back this way to be quite reasonable as you're moving at a similar speed to the traffic.

Good to know /re the A6. My general rule is to avoid it at all costs, no matter where in the country :p

I noticed Von's route stuck to a lot of A roads, which I'm sure would be a lot quicker but as we're not planning on making this a race I thought more enjoyable roads would be better.

What estimated moving time does Strava give you when you look at that route? It reckons just under 5 hours for me, though I expect it'd take me at least another half hour on top of that... That climb at 60 miles in is going to be brutal :p

Is the little kink at about 54 miles an error or a cafe stop?

Yeah, last time I did that climb I walked up part of it I think - I was a lot less fit and a lot heavier a year ago though :p

Strava also thinks it'll be a bit under 5 hours for me but to be honest even if that were an accurate idea of my speed I'm assuming we'll be taking a fair bit longer to do the route given we'll have a fair few people of very mixed abilities/fitness.

The 54 mile point is definitely an error. I'll go fix that now :)

I think that looks like part of the route I did with OneMoreSolo, and the hill next to Mam Tor at 95km (can't remember its name..is it Winnats Pass?) I do remember as being particularly brutal.

Whilst I don't really post here much any more, I might also be interested and provisionally OK for any of those dates. Odd that you're missing out the Cat & Fiddle climb though. Main issue for me is getting there for an early start.
