Instead of building re-inforced walls to protect it from monsters, is there any other way of building a house so it doesn't get blown to pieces?

I never thought of using a fence! But creepers could spawn on the inside of the fence? Hmm

Torches? Near the fence obviously not as your wall

I've re-enabled Nether and Minecart Mania. /who should also now work.

Let me know if you run into any weird lag/spawning issues.

I have a 7 block deep trench three blocks away from the outside wall round my house. Works perfectly.

How hard is it to create a server for 6 people to just muck around and build stuff on?

That may be close to the location where the tunnel from my submarine mine comes out. It is marked with torches and a sign, right on the coastline. Feel free to visit

monsters will only spawn where is a light level lower than 7 and between 24-144 block radius of you. monsters will only detect and approach you if they are facing you and within 16 blocks of you.

Therfore light up atleast 24 block radius around your home with torches (or anywhere your working at, and you wont get hassled...

....sssssss....thats a nice house you have...ssssss...would be a shame if anything were to happen to it...ssssssss

Total piece of cake. You going to use your main PC I take it? Easiest way to make a vanilla MC server is to grab the minecraft_server.exe file off the minecraft webby and follow the instructions outlined in the wiki tbh. If you want to get more serious then use the Craft Bukkit server wrapper as you can incorporate the multitude of plugins it has to offer into your gaming world.

Nether temporarily disabled again as it seems to be causing excessive server load and lag :/

Will see if disabling it resolves the issue. If it doesn't I'll re-enable it and look at minecart mania, the other potential cause.
