Nick if you look upstairs in my house there's a vertical signal sender made using repeaters, you can play with them to see the delay. You'd just have to add more in (even on a horizontal rather than vertical) to change the delay. I've done it vertically purely to keep it compact as I'm limited in space under my house as there's a hollow mountain right underneath! Alternatively if you purposely short out a XOR gate it makes it pulse then reset.. It's not what I'd call great circruitry but it rapidly pulses for 1-2 secs then resets until triggered again. I noticed this when mucking about with pistons as it made it look like it was munching up anyone stuck between them :)

what does this craftbukket thing give you over vanilla?
looking to run a MC server at work (for brakes) and wondered if it would be worth adding this in?
 
nice, also anyone got a link to some minecart holding pen type things?
setup a cart system but unable to get on before it runs away!

On the server I run, we use pistons to shuffle a piece of track (with minecart) out from in between two blocks and on to a section of powered rail, which seems to work quite well. I can get you a screenshot of the layout later, if you want. :)

Would be interested in playing along with you folks, if I'd be allowed. But is there any specific goal with regards to things that are being built or is it just a case of doing whatever you want that is within the rules?
 
One way you could give a cart time to let you get on (which was what I used to use a couple maps ago) is that instead of a bit of track you place a stone pressure plate, what happens is the cart just stops on top of it as its not track, and the cart itself doesn't activate it since it isn't heavy enough, but when you step in it activates.

Then all you need to do is link that pressure plate up to something to give you speed, which previously I used an old booster (a 2nd cart/track) but I guess with the latest patch you can just use a piston to push you back on track again. This way the cart waits for you at the pressure plate and won't activate until someone steps into it.

Just like that. Means that your cart can't escape whilst you get in and it launches you at a reasonable pace. Also sets off the piston-operated doors at the end just as you reach them so that you can leave. I absolutely love Redstone (although you only need a switch for the piston, I think). :)

Is that a detector rail you have about 4 tracks down? What does it do?

It just activates the piece of powered rail beyond it. We were testing it without a person in the cart, so in order to keep it moving we put extra powered rail in. Problem was, the power was being disconnected before the cart hit regular rail, so it was just stopping.
