OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

lava should only be 1 block above the water.

but lava grinders aren't great mobs drop less when killed by lava, drowners are good.

Ahh jeez, I was hoping that wouldn't be the issue... gonna have to move all the lava for a third time now

It's a gravity killer but they don't always die so the lava's there to get em. I was thinking of doing a drowner at the bottom instead but I wanna get the mobs dead & out of the chunk as soon as possible

I do play MMOs on my own and enjoy them, they just have a chat box included :)

MMOs that force players to group I abandon playing very fast. They are always based around having to do what other people want, play the way other people want, requiring to have certain rare equipment to get into groups for content that drops the equipment you need, and when stuff that you need drops, it gets rolled for and looted by someone else.

The only MMOs I like are soloable ones and FTP, mainly just Guild Wars.

I got 64 bit Java installed, now where can I find some much better textures to use please?

64 bit should make it work brilliantly. For better textures have a look round the minecraft forum, here.

You play MMOs how I have to these days, I can't put in 4 hours continuous play without interruption these days on a raid etc. I can't group for 2 hours PVP guaranteed and to be honest I wouldn't want to. When I'm playing Minecraft the guys know I might pop away every few minutes, beauty of it is that if I want to have some time on my own all I have to do it /home private and do what I want :)

Minecraft isnt a proper MMO though, its one of those games that is single player first with optional multiplayer.

I've never played any such game multiplayer because I dont have to.

TBH I simply dont get this game, and would only buy it if reduced t £1.49 or something like Terarria was.

Disagree totally, there are thousands and thousands of people who play online everyday, that's massively multi-player isn't it? Single player gets boring fast imo.

that's why it's better in mp to show off your builds and see other peoples stuff and also work together on stuff.. sp feels pointless.

minecraft basically = electronic lego.

I'm sure Minecraft was developed for MP before SP.

nah sp first, notch seems to hate mp for some reason :(

it's as massively-multiplayer as counter strike is. MMOGs by design will typically have a few servers supporting thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of players simultaneously. minecraft has has thousands of servers supporting a handful (in comparison) of players, less than 200.

minecraft is not an MMOG.

Because it's 10x harder to code for? :p

I believe it is an MMO, it's just not a MMORPG ;)

Agreed. Otherwise CSS/BC2/TF2/etc would be MMO's.

we do have over 200 people playing on this server though, just not at the same time. :p

Not cheating, I actually think it's relevant. While I agree with what you are saying about amount of players online at the same time. I was thinking about the size of the world and the fact it is persistant and if the server was empty, it would continue to carry on. It has a 'world' which players re-visit and shape themselves, ok no quests but it is sandbox. While it supports only a small amount of players at a time, it can serve a large population of people who have their own space on a server. When UO was big, it quite often split the large groups into shards of players, you could argue this is similar.

I'm going to have to agree to disagree on this one methinks lol :)
