OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

Mine was amazing that i found. I went back down recently the area i found has been totally pillaged. I think updated rules should be made for mines.

I kind of agree. However it's hard to work out what's stealing when it comes to mines. If someone torch-explores a whole massive cave system ONLY in the search for diamond, takes all the diamond and leaves, it should be OK for someone else to come across it an take the iron/coal with that person's permission.

The problem is working out whose cave it is, and what their intentions are. One can't exactly ask "hey, whose cave is this?", as they're all so similar.

Maybe if you do find a new cave system, throw up a few signs either declaring total ownership, or that you only want the diamond and the iron and other people can feel free to explore and take the coal/gold/redstone etc.

lost my diamond pick, my diamon8d sword and my diamond shoval to lava god dammit!!! hehe luckily found a good mine so recovered most of the diamonds needed. :D

fact: most diamonds arent found in open caves, they are near lava buried in stone.

as i said on the server, the town mine is a community mine. you are free to go and mine elsewhere, or use the own mine. its up to you. There doesnt need to be any rules regarding mines, just a bit of common sense.

I've never found diamond randomly near lava. I've always exposed it by exploring caves and/or shovelling away dirt and gravel in natural systems.

The algorithm doesn't put diamond within proximity to lava, or require it to be buried behind rock. Singularities or veins appear randomly between certain levels (I recall roughly 2-17), that's the only criteria for diamond placement the algorithm uses. Perhaps maybe there's a 'not within x distance of eachother' element written into the code as well, but you've got just as good a chance finding diamond in open natural caverns as you do in branch mines.

So if I randomly come across some huge mine and don't have time to explore it, I'd like to be able to stake claim with a sign and not expect other people to go down and harvest it while I'm asleep. I suppose I could block it off and hide it, but this is a community server - we should be able to trust each other.

What if I tunnel into the same cave from somewhere else?

You can't really make a claim on an entire cave.

If there are torches everywhere then it's obvious someone has been there. I claimed a cave next to my build site but I've done a lot to that area and would be frustrated if someone came in with out asking. I usually just let people free roam my area any way if they ask before doing so.

Wow i can't beleive how addictive this game is, one minute i was in a small room with only a building table, next i was in a towering castle with a overview of the map, as a newbie how do you build the crossbow?
