OcUK Nvidia RTX series review thread

A lot of people on here have been going on about Gamers Nexus being the best review site and so I checked out their review and it was completely pants. Only the 2080 and not the 2080ti and they did not even test Vulkan. Did mention how bad nVidia marketing was pre launch. Er, it always is..... who wud have thunkt it?

Load of crap.

Compare that to guru3d who has done 2080FE, 2080ti FE and then the big 3 AIBs of Asus, MSI and Gigabyte. The Asus cooling looks top notch, though the FE seems now to be getting pretty good overclocks and temps with the new designs and fans.

They gave the 2080ti its own video, also a couple tear down videos and a couple hour live stream of overclocking testing on the 2080ti.

To the OP, would it be possible to have a sub-section for sites that didn't sign up to the Nvidia NDA.

I don't know about everyone else, but I never trust reviews from sites that are tied in to NDA's.

If Steve from Gamers Nexus took a turd on piece of metal, smoothed it out, drew 2 fan shapes, and told me it was a 2080 Ti I'd believe him*. Pretty trustworthy guy tbh.

*I would obviously stop trusting him afterwards.

He wouldn't be wrong if the DLSS and ray tracing fail to materialise. :p

Edit: its a joke.

I don't understand the logic to this position. At all. Very tin foil hat.

I don't think the reviews sites were very kind to NVidia and rightly so.

If you read a number of reviews you will get an accurate picture.

Any site that did a review on the 19th Sept would have been bound by NVidias NDA, that is the only way they would have had access to cards for testing.

Summary of the reviews

Turing is about 30% faster than Pascal.

DLSS and Ray Tracing are nice techs but no games available yet to use it.

Turing asking price is way too much.

I still read the reviews, but they seem very similar, with the same games tested. Also in the lead-up and still on a lot of these sites now is a preference for comparing the 2080 with the 1080. When clearly it should be compared with the 1080ti which is cheaper. Indeed the 2080FE should be compared with some of the better overclocked 1080ti's.

I wouldn't know where to start. The DigitalFoundry one though - great testing(as usual),but LOLWTFBBQ at the end as they were saying its expensive but justified due to "reasons" including phones. LOL.

Best to read though most of them and look at the figures and get a gist of what level of performance you see,and make a personal decision. This way you can get an idea of which reviews seem an outlier and which are not, hence why I will add as many reviews as I can to give you the chance to make your own mind up.

What are you suggesting? That there is collusion with Nvidia of some sort? An attempt to hide or obscure information? It all comes out in due course anyway, and if reviewers are felt to have kept facts from their readers/viewers, they will find their subscriber base quickly dwindles. It's a completely self-defeating approach.

They test most games... I've not seen any particular game (or engine) entirely ignored. Also, it's fairly apparent and easy to deduce where the 2080FE falls in line with the various 1080Ti cards... they can't test and have benchmarks for EVERY card out there lol! It would be Christmas before they got their reviews out there otherwise!

Looking at their website front page I did not see that review after all the glowing reports. I still cannot see it on their website, though I may just be being dumb.

Thanks, I will give it a view :) The other criticisms still stand.

The thing is, DF are enthusiasts.

Both John Linneman and Richard Leadbetter have expensive LG OLED TV's, so we know they game at 4k/60hz.

TBF,I suspect most sites would have signed the NDA unless they bought the cards themselves.

Yeah, probably and I think they got a bit overenthused as a result. Still at least their testing is useful to watch.

I think you are better off typing into google bud. Maybe something like "NVidia 2080 what a load of **** review" or similar. Or look out for AdoredTV, as he never has anything good to say about NVidia and I am sure he will have a vid out soon (if he hasn't already) saying how bad NVidia are.
