OcUK Powerlifting Totals

cheers ff :D

Jack, no one who doesnt box squat squats consistently and/or correctly, spotters aint worth crap unless they are far superior to you and thus will yell at you for poor form, most dont pay attention and most dont know a parallel squat from a half squat. Is your spotter your buddy? Even worse, he wont wanna tell you if your not quite parallel because your likely to hurl abuse at him mid rep. The point is, and this isnt directed at you or anyone else here in particular. The ONLY way to be sure of your squat ability is to have a set level to squat down to. That way each squat and each new total is consistent and honest.

For all i care you could come on here and say you squat 300k and who am i to doubt that? I'm simply pointing out that sometimes its a good idea to step back from an exercise and look honestly at it, refining your methods where necessary.

I dont mean to accuse you here, but I have a 1RM of 425lbs, and I barely squat 250lbs for 20 reps.

The only way I can think this is possible with you is if you aren't going to parallel. It's ok, it is easy to think your going to parallel as there are instances when the mirror lies, especially when looking head on.

To get around this, we squat to parallel with nothing but a bar and then put one of those elastic cords across the rack. So that when we do squat, we make sure we hit the elastic.

those are very helpful also.

How long have you guys been lifting to be hitting such weights?

I'm 16 .. been doing weights for a few months and bench around 30kg .. and weigh ~70kg

i been lifting 18months, peeps like ken have been going many years.

At 16 your a long way from being as biologically capable as someone in their mid 20's. If you can get bodyweight lifts out before your 18th birthday then you will be doing well. and dont forget that the jumps get bigger with smaller steps. If you bench 100k, you are an amateur with reasonable strength, you bench 150kg , you are an advanced trainer with significant strength. If you bench 200+ you are a strength professional.

The gaps seem small but the realities of the weight increases are massive.

You'd think so, I've actually only been lifting for 2 years. :)

It's taken an unimaginable amount of work and eating to get to where I am now. I Had the benefit of a meal plan which fed me 24/7 and some of the nations best strength trainers and nutritionists telling me exactly what to do.

30kg is a bar and two plates, which at 16 isn't that great but every ones gotta start somewhere right? I suggest you read my earlier post, and just eat a lot.

Progress will come with determination. Remember, Rome wasnt built in a day and neither is your body.

Tbh, i can never understand the guys who have been training upteen years and still manage to look mediocre, their training/eating plan must be way out!

Anyone should be looking pretty well built at the 2-4yr mark with true dedication, most of the lads i know do anyhow.

While I agree on the most part, There are some instances where this doesn't work. I have a friend who basically trains a lot with me, real dedicated guy, eats well and plenty but he is still small. He makes strength gains but never size gains. I guess it's just genetics. I really feel sorry for him as he really does try and give it his all, just doesn't work.

I think it's a mixture of genetics and hard work and good diet. I've been training seriously now for coming up to 18 months and still making progress (albeit slower) however I'm really happy that I have made progress.

At 16 I wouldn't push yourself too hard as you're still very much growing and you don't want too put too much strain on your joints and body just yet - IMO of course.

Was feeling good today after the first decent nights sleep I've had in a long time so tried to validate my DL 1RM after completing my regular sets. The online calcs had thrown up 140kg so I edged up from 120 in 5kg increments. Managed to get 135 up but it was too much of an effort to risk injury going for the extra 5.

Confident I could get it fresh, but still a bit annoyed as until I get it properly it feels cheeky reporting it as my 1RM. Still fairly happy with it given my BW though (70kg - 5'8).

Can you stick mine in?

Bench: 100kg
Squat: 120 kg
Dead:135kg (we'll stick this revised version in until I get it properly!)

@ 5'8 and 70kg

KK takes 3rd place!!! :eek: :cool: Nicely done mate! I'm still in 7th, and it's going to be a long way to go to get past 550kg so I'm likely to stay there for a while!

I will be on the last week of my pyramid cycle next week so will have a whole new set of 1RM's, I dont expect much change as it's been a short one this time.

This is the last time I will lift heavy for 6 months now, once the season starts it's just maintenance work and conditioning. (they try to prevent injury's due to lifting)

Might as well add my (comparatively puny) lifts.

Body weight = 67.5kg
Height - 5ft 9"

Dont know my 1rm. All are done for 8 reps.

Bench = 70kg
Squat = 90kg
Deadlift = 90kg

Bit weary about pushing myself on the Deadlifts. Paranoid about pulling something.

Don't worry about "puny" lifts, we all have to start somewhere :)

Don't push yourself until you're sure you've got the technique sorted, but then when you're sure you've got it there's no harm. :)
