OcUK Powerlifting Totals

I think my form is good but i dont really have anyone at my gym who i'd feel confident in giving me the all clear.

The only 2 other people I see deadlifting have shocking form. Literally bent over with there legs straight! Even the really big guys dont seem the DL thinking about it?

Quick question whilst im here. Would i be better off lowering the reps and increasing the weight slightly on bigger lifts like deads and squats?

I pretty much do everything 3x8.

Managed 110kg for 5 on DL today. Need to work on my grip a bit though i think. Was struggling to hold on! God knows how some of you hold on to 200+kg!

Also managed 75kg for 8 on BP (needed a little help on the last 3 though) on monday.

That's good going mate :)

As for grip at 200+ - I don't know, I've just got very very good grip strength... you can improve it by using things like captains of crush hand gripper type of exercises.

new stats:
weight: 82.5kg
bench: 85kg *using 1rm calculator*
Squat: 110kg still but much smoother and more than parallel :)
deadlift: 160kg

I'm slowly going up :)

Increased my bench by 5 kilos not much but its a small gain :). Sadly given up on the Squats/dead lifting i really dont enjoy it:(.

Your stats are pretty mad!

I wouldn't be giving up if I was squatting and DL'ing as much as you! Squats are a total killer for me closely followed by deadlifts as I think they are the most mentally demanding lifts..

Don't stop them even if you don't go all out on them if you can't handle it ;) :p

its because they are a killer he doesnt do them :p
for a lot of people the pain from them doesnt warrent the need to do them. ive not deadlifted from the ground in ages now, not for a long time. just dont feel the extra potential from them is worth the potential injury :]

keep it up m8 thats good going. Try doing that with a different stance for a bit then go back to regular DL and youll put 10-20k on that (reccommend sumo DL)

Thanks, put another 2.5kg on the deadlift this weekend so up to 132.5kg for 5 quick reps now. Changed my stance on squats to sumo and my PB seems pretty easy all of a sudden, looking forward to seeing my totals go up for that. You think it's good for deadlift too then?

What I really struggle with is benchpress. My personal best is 65kg for 5 reps but I can't seem to get much further. Started doing some extra triceps work and some flyes too to try to get benchpress a bit better. Anybody recommend something I could try? Would like to get it up to 70kg in the near future if I can.

Get your shoulder strength up for starters and then go on a strength cycle for bench (or chest) i.e 50% (10 reps) 60% (5 reps) 75% (3 reps) then 80-85% (6x2 sets & reps) - resting a good 2-3mins between lifts.
Do this for 4-6weeks alternating the last percentile with 80%, 85% & 90% (when doing 80% use 4x5 for instance)
You'll be pushing 80kg in no time ;)
