OcUK RX5800X3D review thread

Anywho.... after a couple of weeks testing i found this is rock solid 4.9Ghz all core in games and between 4.7 and 4.9Ghz in higher workloads.
Quite a high variance between good and bad cores with nothing really in the middle.

An "Auto Curve Optimiser" would be pretty cool.

I doubt AMD would have deliberately held back performance especially since if they had have been able to push it more then it would have retaken the crown from Intel. It's more likely technical limitations and reliability which is why the voltage only goes up to 1.35v.

Exactly this, and it'll be more thermally restricted due to the stacked layout. While some processors might take it, the safe window is going to be much narrower.

Sheesh £500+ of RAM in that 12900K system, and some reviewers are saying the £419 for the 5800X3D is expensive. When was the last time you could take a system from 5 years ago and slap a brand new top of the range (in games) processors in it and extend the platform like span? Less e-waste, less money outgoing, less faff, less carbon footprint, its not for everyone but they do half make sense for a long term platform.

good stuff quite a wide range of titles to normalise the results. And yes the two CPUs are very even each wins in half of the games tested

And yes you can talk about cost, but it's not a great test anyway when it comes to cost since the 12900k is overkill for gaming and a 12600 or 12700 is just as fast, there is no getting around how expensive ddr5 is though

So he makes a poll asking how they want these CPU's tested and then ignores the majority vote, he did the same thing with Resizable Bar, he polled only his paying subscribers on Discord, when they told him they wanted Resizable Bar included in GPU testing he took the same poll to twitter, who also told him they wanted Resizable Bar included.

What did he do? ignored them all, he only does these polls in the hope that people agree with what he wants to do, he's looking for affirmation, if he doesn't get it he ignores them and does what he wants anyway.

think I'm gonna sell my 5900x and get one as I only game so don't really use the extra cores...hopefully there will be some real world comparison between them on 40 games like the review above.

Adding one extra game that shows x3d winning by 30% would not really change the end result which is the average of all scores

the 5800x3d is a cherry picking CPU let's be honest, you can make it look slower than a 5800x and you can make it look 30% faster than an 12900k. You already know what flight simulator does if that's the only game you play then your choice is obvious. For anyone who plays a big variety of games either CPU is a good choice (thought I'd say a 12600/12700 is a better choice for as it's pretty much the same as the 12900 in games and the savings in price covers the cost of DDR5)

How times have changed since this time last year when ryzen had a huge lead over Intels newly released rocket lake and people were saying it would take 5 years for Intel to catch AMD yet with 17 months dev time since zen 3 AMD can only match Intels ADL in gaming performance while losing in productivity even against the cheaper vanilla zen 3 chips so it's not that impressive in the grand scheme of things especially when compared to the gains Intel made with ADL over rocket lake.
