OcUK Ryzen 9 3950X review thread

How does OCing work on these new AMD chips. Is it only one core or all? Either way, very impressive and very much needed for the health of the CPU market.

it doesn't. You're better to leave them to boost themselves. You may be able to get a better all core clock, but you will lose the boosting upto 4.7ghz if you do that, and you wont be able to do 4.7ghz all core unless you are VERY lucky.

Doesn’t even matter if you’re super lucky, it won’t do it, full stop. Not without LN2 anyway.

Steve from GN is live streaming right now putting it under LN2.

Got to say this chip looks mighty impressive. Well done to AMD.

Still got a good few years left with my i7-7820x but AMD keep this up and it'll be their chip in my system some time in the future!

I did wonder if there's been a process revision or something to eak out abit more, as Linus's review showed surprising efficiency gains.

Its very impressive going off that 1 review

Oh well still pretty average for gaming, no reason to upgrade for another year.

When the 8700k release they said it's a bad buy, it will get sent packing soon by higher core count chips. LOL, over 2 years going in for 3 and still a absolute unit.

Me thinks the 8700K is a better buy than the 9700K.

Anyways, this 3950X is cheaper than even the intel 10940K 14-Core CPU while outclassing it at every level except the lanes.

:D

I want it as well however cannot justifying it in anyway shape or form so will stick to a 3700x seeing as the 3900x are inflated.

Yeah, you wont see the 3950x anywhere in he Uk for less than 800gbp anytime soon, possible even 850gbp.

Yeah you used to see parity with dollar and GBP when launching a new bit of hardware. So if it was $500 then OCUK would have it at £500, you'd have a good idea of £cost when the dollar amount was announced. Retail for this is $750 so, with scarcity, it'll be probably around £850-£900 on ocuk which is to be expected.

Makes you wonder for how long that price would be like that though. Gibbo mentioned yesterday they have 0 stock and will be tougher to find than a 3900x.

I bet it wont stay and hit £850.

I'm sure this morning you could pre-order. Now the button is gone.

Where I am, I can actually find the 3900x but its 60CHF over the RRP......I rather wait.
