OcUK Ryzen 9 3950X review thread

You are right and wrong. Wrong because This cpu will easily bottleneck a 2080ti at 1080p in current games. Right, but your theory only holds true if developer are effectively using all 32 threads and using DX12 api to remove cpu bottleneck

But isn't the point of having a GPU like the 2080ti is so it can run games at 1440p at a minimum and usually 4k? Buying a GPU of that caliber for 1080p gaming is a bit silly

That’s why I don’t buy from OverchargersUK.
OverchargersUK :D To be fair there are many items where OcUK are the cheapest you will find in the UK though in the case of the 3900X it was ironic that OcUK's parent company had the CPU in stock selling for £474 whereas OcUK are selling it for £600.

We will see where the 3950X price will end up due to 'supply and demand'.

Crossing my fingers than I am lucky again in this years company charity raffle, they've given sneak peaks of what is up for grabs, and I know they have a 3950X, a 3700X, 3x ASRock X570 Taichi boards, some SSD's, and loads of other random PC parts, including an Intel NUC. If I am unlucky I'll win shopping vouchers, champagne, or a holiday (inc. paid leave).

Not sure what I'd do with a 3950X, probably sell it and buy an entire lower end PC! :D

I so envy you! And I wish you best of luck

Sounds like a good place to work!

I only work for them as a consultant, but I am there a lot! I think they upped the ticket price this year to £20, but they match all of the cash raised and double it, which is pretty cool. None of the prizes are terrible, expect maybe if you win a mouse mat, or a voucher for MAC makeup :D

I bet you don't envy the hard work and sleepless nights, thinking about PSU's, chassis intrusion alarms, and other random problems. :p

Sleepless nights not much but the rest I wouldn't mind haha.

What's up with the price for 3950x ,shouldn't it be more like £700 than £799? I like buying my parts from OCUK but I think I'll look elsewhere this time :(

To be fair, they're quite transparent about their markups, based on customer service alone id choose OCers over other retailers. Unless there is a massive difference obviously.

Guys

The pricing, well you can expect it get far far worse if supply does not change.

So far I've found 4pc through official channels, yes four units, I've sourced another 10 units from a broker for a much higher price.

In short if the supply does not drastically alter, then £799 is really nothing to worry over as I can see places charging well over a grand for these if the supply is going to be so short, you thought 3900X was bad, this CPU is looking set to be 100x worse on the supply front.

For us as a company what do we do?

Keep the MSRP, sell the 4 units, then the additional 10 at a loss and then take 100's potentially thousands of orders for an item we cannot supply or certainly not in a satisfactory time. Because we don't want people placing orders with us for an item they may not get until sometime in 2020!

So it is easier to sell the handful we have at a higher price and at £799 believe it or not we make around £60 profit because of the stock mixing with broker more expensive stock and if supply does not improve then I can see channel price rocketing, because its simple as this we don't want people buying 3950X if we can't supply it, we'd rather they think damn I will just grab a 3900X as its in stock or go the whole hog and upgrade to a thread ripper which supply of is looking much better. Then the handful of people who do buy a 3950X, the handful of stock we get will meet their demand.

You do not like it, but if demand massively outweighs supply, its simply how things work. The problem is supply and I ordered 2500 units via official channels and to get 4 units so far is nothing short of a disaster, if I got my 2500 units, we would be at MSRP, infact we would do everything to be under the MSRP.

I do not like it, I don't want to sell 10, 50 or 100 units at an inflated price.
I want to sell thousands of units at the MSRP and grab all the other kit customers may need to go with that CPU.

If supply situation changes, the pricing will be at MSRP. :)

Here I was thinking that it might not be as bad as the 3900x....

Not a bad pickle for AMD to be in, where the demand is so strong that it just massively outweighs the Supply at the moment

Too bad though because AMD has a great product they cannot produce. Why only 4pc that is insane. And why is the new Threadripper easier to get, shows what they prioritised i guess their chiplets. More and more it looks like ill be getting a 3900x or skipping again this gen.

I do love the whole "limited quantity so we'll sell at a higher price to manage expectations". Tripe. What happened to good old first come, first served? Sell the 4 you have at RRP and be damned if 10 people try to buy, because there will be 6 people disappointed regardless.

Our website does not update in real time, though its responsive due to how servers and caches work people would be buying an item showing in stock and be severley disappointed as we know from previous big launches the first five minutes will see several hundred orders and as the website would not update in time there would be a few hundred people all expecting a CPU, yet only 4-6 will only get one.

So for us to disappoint several hundred customers is really not an option.

I've put the question to AMD if we sell at MSRP and sell 500pc on day one, when will we get the remainder so we can keep customers informed, I am still awaiting a response on that.

That would be all fine, as long as you take away the pre-order button once all 6 are sold, so you are not hanging on to £10k's of people money with no idea when your stock is arriving, or I dunno, maybe take the money at the time of shipping it?

What your failing to understand is yes we would do that, but the website takes a few minutes to action that, and with several hundred ordering at once, creates the issue.

We may just not launch on time to avoid the mad rush and then list it later or the following day or simply when we have more stock.
