OcUK Zen3 review thread

CS:GO seems to really love the new architecture for some reason.

RIP Intel, that is all I get from the reviews.

I agree it's not necessarily a huge gaming lead for AMD. I do, however, have a small issue with these 2 reviews using 3200mhz RAM when this is clearly not optimal for the Ryzens.

Every game written over the Source engine should have the same performance lead with AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPUs.

In games its up as much as 48% on previous gen, in terms of AMD competing with themselves its a huge leap. Against Intel more a mixed bag but i put AMD ahead, mostly they are about even give or take 5%, but when it comes to the outlying big margins its AMD that's taking them and i think Zen 3 will mature more and more that way.

Yeah of course its all about value now AMD are gaming king.

Right, Intel ahead "you pay for what you get" AMD ahead "its all about value for money man!"

Yeah but reviews like Techpowerup are extremely misleading. It's disappointing to see it.

whats even funnier is....majority in here who are championing the top tier amd cpu wont even buy one but a lower end 5600 which is £40 -50 dearer than a faster intel 10600k in games. :p

Watched Hardware Unboxed review of the 5950X and a couple of things struck me...

Rightly so they used a 3090 or 3080 for their 1080p gaming benchmarks, which i agree with, but arent the 3080/3090 not supposed to be as good a leap forwards from previous gen than they are at 4k? This makes me think AMD's 6800XT / 6900XT might even pull ahead in these benchmarks on Ryzen Gen3 CPU's especially once you turn on their secret sauce SAM etc.

Overall i was really impressed with the performance gains, i cant wait to see HU's review of the 5900X and the 5800X and even 5600X.

And then again with AMD GPU's, as we could potentially see AMD ahead even further in all AMD builds.

how do i agree that a amd cpu is more expensive than a equal gaming cpu yet its some how winning.
They aren't specifically for gaming you realise that yeah? I've said about the memory but besides that your £150 extra gets you 2 extra cores.

yeah but people are using them as gaming benchmarks to try and validate amd are better. thats why i used a realistic option first of a 5800. as that upto what most gamers will realistically use. over than will mostly be for work . there is method behind my madness.

Think I was going too fast on the hype train as I feel a little disappointed by the AMD results. Thought the difference would be a bit more convincing

AMD was never going to crush Intel in gaming, they have improved on previous gen and they got some good results vs Intel.

AMD CPU's keep getting better and better, competition is good, that's the main thing :)

Nah you were just wrong.

You were clearly saying AMD cpus were losing to Intel cpus in games and didn't even realise it was the 3rd best AMD cpu you were looking at until I told you there were better AMD cpus.

Can't believe you're trying to fake a defence out of being wrong.

THEN trying to make a smokescreen by saying X Intel chip is better value for gaming as if anyone asked.

The 10900K is terrible value for gaming but it was the best at it. Now there's the 5950X which is just as good at gaming but much better at work. Anyone buying either for just gaming has too much money but that's their business if they want the best desktop cpu.

Anyone wants advice on the best value gaming cpu, that's a different matter totally.

Glad I opted for the 10850k a couple of weeks ago. Although the 5950x would be nice, it was more than I wanted to pay. So the comparison for me was always with the 5800x.

As I've got the 10850k overclocked the extra 100mhz to a 10900k the benchmarks are showing its the better choice over a 5800x. At least in my opinion.

Another main driver was being able to get hold of one as I've been a put off still waiting for a 3080 ordered on release day!
