*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

Thanks Mel. It's just a shame you have to take the headset apart to do it. They could have put a tiny on/off switch or reset button somewhere where the lens enclosure is, that directly isolates the battery. I'd hate to think of how many headsets are ending up in landfill with lithium batteries onboard.

It's the same with all modern devices now. The battery is so much harder to get to than is need to be. It's one of my pet peeves, that no thought is given to making it easier to disconnect the battery.

It's a scary thought all right.

Make things repairable = sell less devices

There are new EU rules coming in that electronic devices have to have the batteries easily removable. Let's hope that means we'll be able to get batteries swapped for these headsets and also controllers like the Pro controllers, Index Controllers and PSVR2 controllers.

Of course that depends on if you can actually get the parts. The Quest Pro has the battery in the headstrap and it's not difficult to get to. Trouble is it's a custom curved battery so you can't get a replacement. Meta don't sell spares.

It's a full repairable requirement not just batteries. It's in response to Apples insistence on sealing batteries for life in their iPhones. Apple are not the only offenders tho'.
UK are following suit.

Something close to my heart as you can see :)

Good to hear. It's needed. I'm fed up of throwing tech away because you can't repair it.

One of the worst cases is the Pro controllers where a £150 controller uses a cheap thumbstick unit that wears out and is very difficult to replace.

The latest news from borkdate central. Quest 2 controllers only working in the home environments, but not in games.
