*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

Hi Guys,

The left quest 2 controller cap has just broken in two pieces here, seems the joystick itself works ok, just the plastic cap that has broken, I do have an extended guarantee with a well known High St store, so will follow up on that, but out of curiosity have any of you ever replaced this cap yourselves.

Many thanks.

I've removed the caps before, but not replaced. Plan on replacing the joystick itself (but then re-using the old cap), this week. I'd imagine you can pick it up for a very small sum. Go with the guarantee first though!

Thanks,

Seems like replacing the whole joystick requires a lot of steps,

The cap does seen a lot easier to do, probably I got carried away on a few games and put too much pressure on it, anyway D and G are collecting it soon and sending it to the Console Doctor in Newcastle, though it says nothing on their website about repairing Quests, I have just emailed them to find out.

I've been lurking for a while in the Build logs forum, but came across this forum yesterday. I've got a Q2 which I built a VR PC for a couple of years ago. I recently picked up a Dell Inspiron 7260, with a 3060 GPU. I don't get a great deal of time to play and when I do it usually Elite Dangerous. Having said that I've also made my way through both the Subnautica games (stunning in VR, but I bet pants in flat screen), and nearly finished HL Alex.

Does anyone here play E: D? It's the thing that sold me on VR way back when I got a Rift. It's possible to pick up the game for less than £5 (£15 for Odyssey if you like FPS) on Steam when on Sale and it's worth it for the first every time you dock at one of the big stations, better still if you have a docking computer and just sit back and watch the show.

There's at least 2 others, @Ravenger and @ShiWarrior have both flown together I believe.

If you put a post in the social gaming thread, it's where a group of us play together, normally Monday evenings with walkabout golf, but at least the 2 I've mentioned have definitely played elite together.

Yeah I've played Elite MP, but I'm only an occasional player now. Shiwarrior has played loads more though.

I haven't played in ages, I need to re do my controls because they are messed up

I normally do non vr, because I spend most of the time doing boring runs here and there. But if I'm solely doing combat, I use VR for that or multiplayer with Ravenger

Yeah, having purchased a fleet carrier I spend some of the time clocking trading runs to keep it topped up, so I do that in flat as I'm quicker that way. I actually put the headset back on last night as I've topped it up to 100M credits (about 10 weeks worth). They've obviously been tweaking the rendering as it's now super detailed. You can see inside the station hangers you can't visit etc.

They changed the whole key lay out thing a while back and it took me ages to find a way that worked for me on the F710 game pad. It IS much improved once you've bitten the bullet.

Do think carefully, it's a kind of commitment to keep it going. I've yet to find a way of making it self funding. I did trek to Sag A* with it (and my motley fleet) and had nearly 12 months of mining Tritium to go and then get back to the bubble.

picked up a quest 2 second hand from MM for the sprogs but I was wondering, how is everyone playing elite in VR? when I load it up through the steam link none of the controls pass through and even when I try and use my xbox controller connected to the PC it's still not happy.

I'll check later but IIRC you can tell the launch program you're using X box controller, then when you get to the main menu Select controls and x box controller should be in the drop down

It's also possible to kick off in VR mode using the /vr flag on the launcher icon command in properties

For some reason the image insert is set to default to http:\\ so won't take an https:\\

Anyway, from the launch home page, hit the dropdown on your connected account. Select settings and you should see this screen, with the xinput option:

Elite Dangerous settings

I also use a Q2 with VD. I use a link cable to keep it powered during sessions, with a head strap battery to extend the life. It is possible to run the Q2 without Oculus or Steam. See here.

My headset has been out of action for a good 6 months to a year because it couldn't connect to any networks. I actually spent an hour trying to fix it today and I was quite happy to do a factory reset but cleverly you can't do that from the headset in it's OS, you do it from the app. The app connects to the headset using some black magic rather than wifi but even then it failed at factory resetting at which point the headset was lost from the meta horizons app and could not be added. Fortuntely it seems you can factory reset from the bootloader style menu.

Now I am back in, it looks like I bought AC Horizons at some point and never played it so I'll give that a go!

Hi Guys,
I just picked up a Quest 3 as i'd like to try connecting it to my PC and playing WRC24. I just wondered if anybody had a referral link for for the £23 credit?
It would be handy to have, so i can pick up a few games for my son and myself to play.

Many Thanks,

Rob

Sent you one.

New headset should also have 3 months trial of meta plus (and batman Arkham Shadow). The trial will let you try a load of games, then either keep up the subscription, or buy the ones you enjoyed the most.

I bought a cheap Quest 2 off ebay with a known fault of the 'meta logo boot loop of death' just to see if it could be resurrected. There are the multiple button press, and flattening the battery suggestions on the interwebs which failed to work. So I tried using the then new, meta update tool and also tried sideloading an updated firmware using cmd prompt. Neither of these options registered as a device being connected. Someone managed to get a Quest 2 out of the boot loop of death by stripping it down and disconnecting the battery from the PCB. This actually worked. 14 screws gets the inner faceplate, the outer faceplate and the battery connector clamp off and you're good to go.

Good job man!! The disconnect the power supply for a few minutes then trying again, is an old reliable. Solves a lot more problems than people think!!

Thanks Mel. It's just a shame you have to take the headset apart to do it. They could have put a tiny on/off switch or reset button somewhere where the lens enclosure is, that directly isolates the battery. I'd hate to think of how many headsets are ending up in landfill with lithium batteries onboard.
