Oculus Quest (Santa Cruz)

Though the headset was fine yesterday, today I've found it quite painful to wear, so that strap looks like a good solution. It must be popular as it's out of stock!

Another solution is to buy a velcro bag strap cushion and put that on the headstrap.

I've been finding the headstrap isn't really grippy enough and it keeps sliding up. I've had to put the headset on tighter than I'd like to fix this, which makes it more uncomfortable, so I've temporarily put some bubblewrap around the bottom edge and this seems to make it more comfortable and stable, so some sort of velcro attached pad there might work.

PortaPro headphones attached, sounds infinitely better than the cack built-in.

Will buy some thin two core and solder a new, shorter cable on to make it nice and neat :)

Try one of these:- https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/go-quest-deluxe-strap-black

A colleague at Uni suffers the same thing with VR headsets, esp the Rift (I don't for some reason, inc the Quest which I've been wearing nearly all day) and he swears by it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out. It's a real shame the comfort is so poor out of the box as otherwise I'm super impressed with the device. You'd have thought with so many people saying that same thing this would have been picked up in testing though. It's obvious within seconds of putting in the headset that the bracket doesn't go back far enough or low enough to take the weight off the face.

I was playing Robo Recall last night and being able to turn and move around freely untethered is a revelation! It's going to be impossible to go back to a wired headset after this!

Also, I being able to literally walk into any room, put on the headset and be playing in VR a matter of seconds later is really something truly spectacular.

Think I'll book tomorrow off and get one lol

Whilst I was mainly interested in movies, the games look so much fun

:edit: only one I can find is a 128gb model in Argos....that's made my mind up then

- The comfort of the headset is IMO very poor unfortunately. The halo strap doesn't feel like it goes far enough behind your head and this leaves all of the weight resting on your forehead and cheekbones.

The Quest doesn't have a Halo headstrap, that would be what the Rift S has. You've got a few options though. Make sure you're wearing it correctly. RaMarcus did a very handy video for this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5L3qAdCcOw
You could try the Quest strap linked above. Someone has managed to frankenmod a DAS onto theirs, shown on reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/bryp9y/frankenquest/
Some people have also velcroed a battery pack onto the back of the strap as a counterweight, so you'll get extra playtime and better comfort apparently.

Shouldn't have to do any of those things though.....it's £400-£500

If they have failed in its design, they've failed in its design

Agree there. The actual headset itself is amazing, but the headstrap design is a big fail. It's strange because the Rift one fits me so well and I have had no comfort issues with that.

Did you fully losen the top strap, fit the back rubber bits onto the lower part of your head and then drop the headset into place?

Yep. After a few minutes I get sharp pain in the back and sides of my head. I have to have the side straps fairly tight otherwise the headset shifts and I lose the sweet spot.

I have quite a large bump at the base of my skull and I think the bottom strap is cutting into that. I'm looking into getting that top strap adaptor and possibly some padding for the bottom/rear strap.

However, I'm definitely keeping the headset as I think it can be made comfortable, and I really love the freedom of being able to take it anywhere.

For the first time today I was able to play Robo Recall and Space Pirate Trainer in a larger area than my attic room and it was awesome.

Though for a £500 device I expected better audio and comfort to be honest.

I really want one (ive actually reserved one for tomorrow), but I'd been far happier with the cheaper 64gb model

I didn't say he had to do them, just trying to help with giving options  With headstraps you will never find a design that 100% of people like and find comfortable, that's just the nature of the beast. Everyone's head shapes are different and people tolerate weight in general and in different places on their head in different ways.
If people have issues but really want to keep using the device and want it to be more comfortable, these were some things that can be tried if anyone wants to, that is all.

I agree, why the rolleyes

Funny thing happened while playing round with my Quest. I was playing with the intro demo where you can pick up and play with paper planes. blocks, etc. As I was having issues with the comfort I had to put my controllers down to adjust the headset. I went to place my controller on the desk and was surprised for an instant when it dropped through onto the floor. :D

Now I've been playing VR almost every day for a couple of years now, but the level of immersion still catches me out on occasion.

They haven't failed in design - they've produced a design that works for the majority of their anticipated customer base that also matches the expected use case scenario (i.e. quick adjustment and pass it round - the Rift S for example take more time to adjust, it's also VERY bulky - not something you want on the Quest). Unfortunately, you seem to be outside the bounds of that design. I've actually read a few research papers and patents around this issue. I was at CHI '19 where I spoke to the Facebook reps about the exact same thing) - you wouldn't believe the amount of data that is collected and analysed to arrive at these designs.

Chromecast v3 is £25 delivered direct from Google if you need one for casting. (Also for £20 in Tesco but went in two today and all gone)

Well I am hoping I'm sat in the majority camp :p Won't find out till I get it home tomorrow

Brilliant

Just don't sit down on a virtual chair :D:D:D

Also there was the time when playing Euro Truck simulator on the Rift and I attempted to rest my elbow on the door's window ledge like I do when driving a real car on the motorway. Needless to say it wasn't there and I lurched unexpectedly sideways. :D

I used to own a PSVR and loved playing london heist. There is a scene where you are sat in a pub holding a cigar. I took a drag and my brain was almost sending signals down for me to cough.

Very weird!
