Oculus Rift

It's definitely going to cost more than DK1 or DK2. They've confirmed this already.

Wishful thinking on my part maybe, but considering the DK2 was actually £280 posted (was just rounding up for ease) I still think the CV1 is going to be closer to £300 than £400. Even if it is £349 :)

They could probably sell out all pre orders with it at £500. I'm going to have a guess that pre orders will sell out, unless its over £600

Will these new 360 videos be able to be played on the rift? Where you move your phone around inside a jet, or anywhere to see all around? Being able to look all around whilst in a video would be very cool.

As im writing this im sure i read it was doable with the dk2 and i tried it but never got it working

Yes, you can do it with Google Cardboard! :p

Looking forward to pre-orders going live, will be interesting to see price and how their system handles the load.

And release date is still set for some time much later right?

Gosh... getting more and more tempted to just get the Rift since I have a small room so might not be able to take proper advantage of full room tracking that the Vive will give.

Good to hear that hopefully they won't sell out though. That way if HTC/Valve announce stuff on Wednesday I won't feel pressured into buying one immediately.

P.S. If they are 'only' £400 that is an instant buy.

Well it's good news, however I won't be preordering, I'd like to see user reviews before sinking that amount into it.

Still a highly likely purchase from me, but want to see what res improvements have come along

It will definitely have this functionality, though I'm not sure if Oculus will provide an app specifically for it. Google is reluctant to help out Oculus much with official support of anything(due to Facebook competition), so dont expect an Oculus Youtube app, though it's inevitable somebody will get it working with Youtube(and the 360 vids on there) pretty quickly. That's what happened with the GearVR.

Yeah that looks good, although I wasn't doubting the quality just whether it would suit my needs specifically, ideally I'd like people who have used the DK2 with DCS world to give their opinions on it, as thats what I'd mainly be playing.

DCS itself is currently the limiting factor with DK2.

Lackluster graphical optimization combined with no specific VR aides (like magnification to cope with tiny in cockpit text) mean that while still an amazing experience it isn't 100% usable.

Improvements to resolution only go so far with VR as when you increase it the horsepower to run it slowly becomes an issue. Slowly specific ways to mitigate this (e.g. Foveated rendering) are becoming more accessible via the SDK and Nvidia /AMD driver/game sdks but again, DCS history of adoption of these improvements doesn't instill much confidence.

Regardless, I'll be throughing every penny I have at making DCS work, frigging love it in the DK2 as it stands, regardless of all the issues :)

But the main problem for me is text resolution, quite honestly if the CV1 had picture perfect res but required a 980ti to run, I would buy both on the spot as thats the hold back for me. It looks great and works great on DK2, but anything requiring text is an issue.

I read that link that Guest2 posted above and from what it seems text res is improved, but thats why I want to wait for user reviews of DCS.

Weirdly for a russian dev DCS are remarkably working towards oculus compatability which is great, as opposed to 777studios who used DK2 as a demo for Battle of Stalingrad then removed all compatibility for it :(

The one game that really needed DK2 tried, proved, then ditched it.

So is the pre-orders only going to be on their website and will the UK be able to order from a UK distributor?

Would pmost likely pre-order if its around £350 but if you then have to add shipping and import tax from the US then I'll probably hold off.

Anyone think playing Valkyrie with just the xbone controller will be good enough or should i invest in another type of controlling system? people mentioned HOTAS setups.. Do you think it'll make my life easier? (I'm mainly looking at Valkyrie at the moment although you never know i will probably expand my games for this!

If you do recommend HOTAS for Valkyrie, which should i go for?

First game I'm gonna try : Alien Isolation.

And if that doesn't kill me, find a job in VR coding somewhere.

It'll make you poop your pants the first time the Alien finds you hiding in a cupboard

Tbh there's not really anything to 'VR' coding...the SDK handles everything, it's like 10-15 lines of C++ to implement in a barebones OpenGL app...it's mostly about gameplay design and implementation.

The one most developers use currently is the Saitek X52 Pro, although the X55 Rhino is slightly better but costs much more.
