Oculus Rift

Installed my Inateck 4 port USB 3.0. If I disable the ASMedia stuff I get GREEN, if i leave it enabled I get a YELLOW warning just about the Asmedia ports.

So all good to go!

Not sure what the issue is. It could have been fine, and that Rift just hasnt tested these controllers, but I doubt that to be the case.

Still I'm ready for my my delivery arrives for :-)

Quick question for those with DK2 or have tried some of the demos.

How do these headsets handle the fact that in the real world we focus our eyes differently on near and far objects? I'm guessing this isn't possible in VR... yet. It would need some sort of advanced eye tracking that could subtly shift the perspectives between the two eyes...

yeah, can't do this with single layer panels, however Nvidia and MIT are working on multi-layer panels that make this a possibility

That's not strictly true - the way the 3D is presented means that you can shift you gaze and focus on near and far objects, it's just when you focus on something near (like your hand) the background doesn't blur and as such there is a bit of eye strain associated with the unconscious realisation that something is different (well, in addition to the added strain of focusing on something really close - which hurts in the real world just as much!)

Of all the games I have that have offered beta VR they've all been for the Rift. I've not gone looking for their policies on Vive support but not seen/heard any noises either. Is this because Oculus made their dev kits freely available or because the Vive is targeted elsewhere?

Wouldn't say it was Oculus of Vive related fully, but this sounds pretty cool!

The UK's Alton Towers has announced Galactica, a three-minute virtual reality flight through space at up to 47mph and 3.5-g. Strapped in face-down with headset on, passengers will travel through an assortment of galactic scenes timed to change with the ride's big moments.

Mostly the former, Vive have made dev kits available freely to certain developers but it doesn't exist in the enthusiast community at all yet. Oculus dev kits have also been available for a lot longer than Vive.

This is the only thing that's holding me back 100% keeping my order. £520 then I have to go buy a USB3 expansion slot because mine won't work correctly

Can't even fit one in my PC as the graphics card covers the slot (stupid asus) so unless someone defo confirms the asmedia ports work fine then Ill either cancel or test it and send it back for a refund.

My ASUS X99-S has 4x Intel USB 3.0 connections, but they go to the front panel.

It also has 8x ASMedia USB 3.0 connections (the rubbish ones), all on the back

My Corsair 750D case front panel has 4x USB connections but 2x are blue and 2x are black.

As they plug in to the ASUS X99s board, does that make them all USB 3.0 speed anyway? I can't actually remember if they are on a seperate connection.

Either way it's a bit annoying that the motherboard has support for 4x USB 3.0 slots, but the front IO on the case only has 2x.

Thankfully my PC is fine on all ports etc.

Have a 4790k CPU and 290x GPU.

May upgrade come April on the GPU side but only if Pascal based Nvidia GPUs have dropped by then, which is unlikely.

I'd love to go 980Ti but Nvidia upgrade seems close?

Mine's scheduled in for may.

Tempted to get the gearVR as a stop gap.

How much you reckon they will be selling for on fleabay once people receive theirs in march?.

Im thinking £700?
