Oculus Rift

Yeah gone for the 4 port powered..gonna look sucky in my case. But I want at least another year out of my mobo.

You think our CPUs will be OK?

Deffo will be fine. my 3930K is at 4.4 and coped perfectly well with SLI Titan Xs, so I am sure it can cope just fine with VR :)

Are right, so its the amount required that is limited by some motherboard. Thanks - didnt know it was 3, I thought it was only 2 USB 3.0 ports required

Says only 2 USB 3.0 port required here http://www.roadtovr.com/oculus-rift-resolution-recommended-specs/

How does Playstation VR / Morpheus stack up against Oculus Rift CV and Vive?

Yes, yes is does. But that is just for the kit we have preordered. The touch controller, released later this year, will also require a usb 3.0 port.

So it isn't wrong, but economical with the facts. It isn't telling you want you need when the touch is released, that is if you buy it.

They have an external processor box for the PSVR. Be interesting to see how much this will add on to the total for the PSVR.

PlayStation VR is due to hit UK shelves later this year – but Sony have continued to stay tight-lipped about a launch date or price.

But an Amazon post might have just revealed all the details on these new gaming goggles.

Details briefly appeared on the Canadian version of the US retail website – listing the price at hefty $1,125.35 (some £550 converted).

How true that is remains to be seen...

There is an artice that says PSVR will be about $800. I reckon it will be £500 delivered.
Indeed, there is an external box to cope with the processing. It will probably just be a GPU, i would be interested to know what.

Hmm, I still can't see it being that great. Not many PS4 owners are going to want to shell out more money than the console costs, are they? Be interesting to see how it works with current games.

It worries me that they'll try and charge that for a substandard experience.

Sony got back with a comment about that – “This was an error by Amazon, we haven’t announced price for PlayStation VR.” And the price has been taken off Amazon Canada.
Wether that's just PR Spin, which wouldn't be surprising, but nor would it be surprising about Amazon having the right price, so no idea what to think. I don't own a PS4, nor will I, as I have zero interest in it, so I don't mind either way.

There is also the option that Sony will sell it at a loss to keep it at a reasonable cost and then make their money back on the games, much like they have done before with consoles.

Agreed. I don't know if it is still the case but they used to sell consoles at a loss and make the money via games.

How do you know it will be a substandard experience?

One thing it has for it is that it will just work. Many people have a PS4 which is all the same hardware. With Oculus and Vive everyone has different so obviously the experience will differ for every single person based on the PC. Even identical specification PCs will be different down to drivers and other software installed.

On the flip side it will not have the customisation that is available to PC owners. One of my best experiences on the Oculus DK was with a Quake mod, Quake Spasm.

It would be interesting to see if all existing games will work with the PSVR but highly doubt it. PSVR games will be just be released for £50-£70 which Sony will make a killing on - any people WILL buy them if the experience is as good as the Oculus.

My none techy friends were blown away by my DK2 so would almost certainly pay for VR console games that did not need any tweaking and customising to get the best experience. Personally I liked that part

Oh one thing....

Who else have been utterly disappointed by HTC Vive people giving interviews at CES 2016 and explaining the product? It's like every other marketing guy i've seen talk through a product, literally seem to know absolutely nothing and chime in with as much buzz phases as possible. I understand they can't let to much out - but he just doesn't seem to understand VR in the slightest. Fact he says "You'd have to defer to Steam... or Valve" (@ 08:20) really just made me sigh.

Check this out;

Watch anything from Oculus re Nate Mitchell or Palmer Luckey - there is so much passion for it, even before they could release details.

It's a real shame that HTC haven't got the same focal points - or at least put in people with some passion around it to make up for that.

I am almost certain Sony said last year at E3 or GDC which ever it was that they were aiming for a price in the region of $299 for the PSVR, that would be a perfect price point for it.

It costs them peanuts for the PS Move controllers and the tracking solution uses existing devices all they have to worry about cost wise is the HMD itself, which is not on the same level as the Rift or Vive technology wise so should indeed be a cheaper solution.

Probably more akin to the Rift DK2 than the Rift CV1 when it comes to specifications and cost.

If thats the case it won't be great. The dk2 was a great tech demo toy in my eyes to try out vr for the first time. I certainly would not like to use it for extended periods of time due to resolution and general nausea with many games.
My rift cv1 will just be another tech test toy, i do not plan on playing games for hours on end with it like console gamers usually do.

There's a physical undeniable weakness in console gpus vs pc, it will either have less pixels or less ddetail . I can't see them integrating any gpu into PSVR(although that would be great). I rate my ps4, Madden and Fifa are ace, but VR is just going to be better on PC. When a great experience is borderline the pc is always going to better.
