Really want to order one of these, but the long delivery time puts me off a bit.
I think I'll be on holiday for the expected delivery date if ordered over the next week. :(

If only you could just walk into a shop and thrown money at someone to get a Rift!

People have been getting there orders quire quickly lately, normally a one week turn around.

When is the 1080p version released?..... So can this be used with movies or is it 100% gaming only? :)

You can watch movies with it, 3d movies too.

The res is low, but I find it fine.

Its a good bit of kit, but most people will be best waiting for the retail version. In saying that, if you are flush, then go for it.

Its great fun, I enjoy trying all the new games and demos... but I don't use it for "normal" gaming such as any game I would normally play.

Nobody knows - Palmer Luckey has said several times that they're aiming at multiples of months, not multiples of years. Going by various forums, people seem to be guessing at the later half of next year, but of course the simple truth is we don't know.

The VR Cinema is awesome, only let down by the resolution of the devkit. There are plenty of other non-gaming areas that people are looking at using the Rift for including virtual desktops, architectural design and treatment of PTSD and various phobias among other things.

I don't use it as much as I thought I would just due to time really, not the kit.

My impressions on gaming so far:

1. War Thunder - Really works well, I felt sick in the cockpit when I banked to the side and looked down... but that's a good sign of it working :) Very good use of it.

2. TF2 - Good again, takes some getting used to with the aim being outwith looking but it works well. Felt great being the heavy and looking down at my belly

3. HL2 - Seemed fine but I didn't play it much

4. Minecraft - The low res and colours worked really well, the floating HUD was a nice touch too. I found this game great for the oculus and the scale of the world felt superb especially when meeting animals etc

Other than that, Ive mainly used it for the games/demos written for the rift and some of them are really quite good. Alone in the rift was pretty well done and some of the showcase demos were pretty sweet.

Its a cracking bit of kit, but you cant use it for long (or I cant).

First time I used it, after I put it down, I felt the real world was the Matrix for about 2 or 3 hours. Everything felt wrong.... but it was a pretty awesome feeling none the less.
