Oculus Rift

:D

.....in other news a smattering of good news for Oculus sim fans - Project Cars (steam version) now seems to be working in 1.3 runtime. I havent done a thorough test but it loads up and i'm on the track all flawlessly. Will need to do some testing of the ATW feature. I should be able to turn on quite a bit more eyecandy :D Quite pleased about this as there was rumours that the developer of Project Cars was trying to be greedy and wanting people who already owned steam version of the game to purchase it again from the Oculus Home store. But thankfully they just updated the steam version. Its all good :D

^ yep, that is one saving grace
When they said you either needed to buy the game twice or to buy all the DLC on steam to get a free Oculus key i was not impressed - if it was only a few days from getting Oculus on Steam support i dont know why they didnt just say something like 2 weeks to give themselves some breathing space but let people know it wasnt just a cash grab

It was stated quite clearly that the Steam version would be updated to support CV1 with existing users needing to do nothing other than exercise a bit of patience. And as expected the game is ready well in advance of most of us getting our headsets!

it was stated that it would, but absolutely no timescale was given, it could have been a week or it could have been 3 months, they weren't giving any clues so assuming the worst, it looked like a cash grab to some of us

in other news, Oculus have just removed shipping costs from everybody's orders as an apology for messing up the launch

Just had an email citing component shortage for the delay. Looks like they're covering the postage cost now though.

"We know you're anxious to receive your Oculus Rift and apologize for not updating your order status sooner. We've been working through an unexpected component shortage, and unfortunately, that issue has impacted the original shipping estimates for some early customers.

We're working hard to get up-to-date ship windows, and you should expect to see your order status updated on oculus.com by Tuesday, April 12. Although many Rifts will be arriving on schedule and in line with original estimates, we'll be covering shipping and handling costs for all orders placed through today.

We're shipping rifts everyday. Don't hesitate to reach out to the Oculus support team if you have additional questions."

Why are some people getting the email and others not? I've had nothing from Oculus since the original order confirmation.

I'm assuming people who are getting those emails are ones who'd have likely had theirs shipped now.

Wonder who dropped the ball in supplying hardware for Oculus.

Don't think it's as simple as that. The post-mortem on the Rift launch will be a fun read.

Not that unexpected tbh. Small company, inexperienced, big commitment, big expectations.

But now, I've got free delivery at least. Hopefully my bank won't screw me over!

I got an email seeing my order was updated, and £30 lighter. Delivery was due for April. AFAIK, all orders up to June get free delivery. Doesn't mean 2 months delay, at least I hope it doesn't.

Yep, can't complain about saving £30 and bringing the price down to below £500.

Once all this dust settles, it would be interesting to find out what has caused all these delays.

Aye..got the email. Originally ordered within a couple of mins of launch.

Ah well, at least it's some sort of communication even if disappointing. Hopefully the Vive will ship on schedule so at least there'll be something to fill in the wait.

Ordered within ten mins with a estimated date of March given but like Rilot I havn't had anything at all since :( works out for me a suppose! i can enjoy my time away next week.

I just got the email too but I'm sure mine wasn't meant to be coming until May anyhow?

I'm still excited like a schoolboy though, I've been waiting for this since virtuality back in the 90s and I've not even used a DK so I have no idea what it's like yet.....

I received this too.

Im at the gadget show tomorrow in Birmingham, hopefully they have the Rift and Vive to demo. If the Oculus blows me away then i'll keep, if not then will have to think - keep and sell or cancel
