Oculus Rift

I received this too.

Im at the gadget show tomorrow in Birmingham, hopefully they have the Rift and Vive to demo. If the Oculus blows me away then i'll keep, if not then will have to think - keep and sell or cancel

I was there yesterday, my advice is get there early as possible (dont forget there is a 10-15 mins walk from the carpark to the building, another 5 mins from the entrance up to the stand, leave picking up your parking pass till the end as you only need it going out - side note omg £12 parking!)

The HTC stand has 6 booths you have to queue to book a timeslot where one of the lovely ladies there will let you into her booth and show you a good time (with a vive you perv!). I saw the empty grey zone, theBlu and space pirate trainer, and the girl in the booth was would watch via the pc and give you hints over a headset mic

I didnt see how long the sessions were but with the numbers of people I imagine its probably more like 10minutes, I got to the stand at 10am, the booking queue was huge and I just decided to skip it. Then after watching a chap have his session he left and they next customer hadnt arrived yet so I was cheeky and asked to try it on as I was getting one soon so I the shortest go to just see if I could see any noticable SDE and how good the tracking is. Couldnt see any issue with either

There is no official oculus demo HOWEVER the Radial-G devs have a single seat on an indie stand with which they have a pre-production sample which is basically identical to the CV1. They were only demoing Radial-G and there was only 1-2 people waiting at the stand, didnt try it but I spoke to the guy as it turned out he was one of the 4 strong dev team for the game.

also got an email regarding delivery and not paying delivery :-) 12 April apparently should know by then.

I too, have received the delivery email. However, I'm considering cancelling my pre-order after reading about the recent Oculus/FB privacy issues. I may wait a few days to see how they respond.

Looks like the Vive is now on my horizon.

I still have an oculus (although not from the initial batch when they arrive) and I still have a vive on order, tbh from what I have been reading I'm swung between both, as people have said there are advantages and disadvantages to both, however removing the postage charge is another sweetener on the oculus side, the one thing that worries me about the vive is the support for games I want to play, ie project cars, AC and elite dangerous, and the only one I'm aware of that has official support is elite atm, where correct me if I'm wrong oculus supports all 3?

Finally joined the email gravy train lol.

Nice to drop the delivery charge by way of apology - at least it's something!

Thunny - I think typically overblown as per usual... Don't get me wrong, I am glad there are people out there that are vigilant against gross invasion of privacy etc but there are also the conspiracy nut jobs who take things out of context and blow them out of proportion.

I'm down for a May delivery and just got the email too. Good on them. I does amaze me in this day and age that keeping the early adopter fan base fed with information is a hard thing to do for companies.

I had a go on the vive at gadget show live today and it is very good. The controllers are excellent but there is still a bit of what i would describe as 'motion blur' when moving your head side to side and it feels pretty heavy to wear (about the same as the DK2)
I'll wait for my Rift to arrive and see how it compares, then either keep or ssell the rift and get a vive.

I would be interested to know how content will work with both, i.e being able to change config of games like Alien Isolation so it worked with the DK2 - can this be done with the rift cv1 / vive?

depands on why you get the VR headset really, if it's for gaming go with the vive, more than room-scale and controllers, you get an agnostic platform ( steam) where you can play multi-player with cross headsets, while the rift version often will be exclusive to the rift, and limit your friend list to rift owners only, like what's going on with project cars.
but if you are getting the headset for other stuff like (ehm...porn) education, movies, social stuff etc, oculus would be fine
remember if you keep the order it will be harder to resell, unless you knock off a good chunk of it's price, warranty issue and all.

Thanks.
I used my dk2 for games, simulators, tech demos, vr desktop, vr cinema. I loved the idea of vr patches/mods such as Quake Spasm (Quake 1 vr) which worked very well.

I ended up selling my dk2 after around 3 months for £40 more than I paid direct from Oculus. If the Rift arrives in April, im oretty sure I could sell it for £550

Project cars isn't rift only. You just cant cross play those who bought it on rift home and those who bought it on steam.

Is Alien Isolation going to have support for CV1? Also, are other good games that were supported on the DK2 also going to work on the CV1 - AssettoCorsa, Half Life 2, Richard Burns Rally and Quake (Quake Spasm)

not a happy chappy Paypal have 'reserved' the amount from my current account, was not ready and sent me overdrawn.

Not got an email confirming shipping or s traking number just this.

Hi hyper,

Your order has been processed and your Rift is almost on its way! Look for a shipping confirmation email with tracking information soon.

Please keep this email handy for reference. If you have any questions or concerns about your order, please contact Oculus Support.

What happened to the 12th ???

What happened to not charging until shipping.

Had to raise a raise with Nationwide to try a waive to fee as I took no charge until ship as face value.

If I have not calmed down by lunchtime will send a cancellation request

Well I assume that means your order will ship today... In my experience if a company charges when shipping, they charge your card, then process your order, then once the delivery has been arranged will send you delivery information.

In their defence, you knew the original rift orders were shipping soon™ - why wouldn't you make sure you had the funds in the right account to avoid going overdrawn? I've never known a company to email you again *before* charging your card on a pre-order.

You have my sympathy though, and oculus certainly could have helped the situation by giving you an actual useful shipping estimate. On the bright side, at least it looks like your rift is on the way - if it's any consolation I haven't heard anything other than the generic email saying update on the 12th despite being there right at the start of pre-orders!

I am sticking to my guns, they charged before shipping :D

My order number was xxx30 so did not even expect it until later this month if at all.

The account I had linked for Paypal does not have an overdraft yet the bank happily let them take the payment, should they of not just refused it due to insufficient funds at the time?

There is no official support planned for any of those titles

Im not bothered about 'official' support. There was no official support when it was modded to work on dk2, but it worked.

To all those giving their opinions on the oculus, vive and other vr, they are just that - opinions. Opinions based on other peoples use.

Its like my blind friend when he says to us "that was a class goal" or "She's fit"
His opinion is based on commentary or what other people think - hardly an accurate or valid statement. Someone elses opinion will differ from the others or someone could have missed a certain angle or view of the goal / woman

Mine was a 29 number :(

I guess that's your bank... probably buried deep in the small print of your bank T&Cs!

In general when you arrange an overdraft facility it's basically giving you a buffer within which you won't get charged or will be charged a fixed amount. Not having the overdraft facility doesn't mean your account can't go overdrawn, but rather that you don't have any pre-arranged agreement as to the size of allowable overdraft before charges are levied. I know you always used to be able to get the charges wiped if you complained but i'm not sure what the current status quo is.

Either way good luck - hope natwest aren't dicks about it!

More importantly, enjoy your rift you lucky SOB!
