Oculus Rift

I'll list the ones i have so far later on when im at home.

I was up until about 1:30 this morning playing with the rift and am pleased to say it is a LOT easier to setup and the than the DK2. No more messing with different display modes or anything. Its a lot comfier to wear and i get nowhere near as much motion sickness (probably due to 90hz instead of 75)

So far so good and ill be keeping it for the time being. Assetto Corsa is much better to play

I might be being a spaz but where is the lens cloth/cleaner? It might be hiding in a secret compartment i dont know about in the box somewhere!

I'm sure you found it already but if not, mine was in the same compartment as the wireless dongle, tucked down the side with the Oculus stickers. It's in a plastic sheath.

My lenses seemed foggy when I first tried them, the cloth cleaned them up a treat.

Cheers. Yep, i found it in the end. It would have been nice for them to have included a simple leaflet of whats in the box and where.
It was packaged very nicely but to the point of not being able to find things :)

List of my stuff so as promised;

War thunder is DK2 only isnt it? - https://www.wearvr.com/apps/war-thunder

It would be great if DK2 stuff could be played too, but i know its not possible with the new SDK 1.3

Still to work out Alien Isolation, Half Life 2, Richard Burns Rally. I have read a post where someone got HL2 working again with the CV1 but its not easy

edit - trackmania turbo apparently has native vr support for dk2 and cv1. There is a trial via uplay - http://trackmania.ubisoft.com/turbo...09-16&ct=tcm:148-76770-32#coVwiHbc12gIFU8z.97 but there does not seem to be a way of setting 'uplay vr' or anything or the sort in uplay similar to steam. No ingame setting like there are for trackmania 1/2/others either

WarThunder now supports SteamVR I think, so should be able to play it on the CV1 and Vive through that. I haven't tried it myself yet.

Certainly, it works on the Vive

Got my rift on Tuesday, absoloutely fascinating bit of kit, I debated selling because to be honest I totally forgot I ordered it and by then it was too late so decided to give it a go and it just really did take me into another world

Dreamdeck was extremely impressive.

I've only used the videos and photos so far but they are fantastic to use, I watched the U2 video and it was mind blowing. I will try Valkyrie tonight.

Overall I think I will keep hold of it because I'm excited to see what more can be done with the rift and let's face it it only cost as much as a new high end monitor at the end of the day.

EDIT : Guys is it possible to play all non standard VR games in rift yet?

I watched Terminator Genisys in the rift last night in the cinema app, a bit of face aching after 2hours+ but it was so enjoyable it really did feel like i had the whole cinema to myself, yes resolution could be better etc etc ( i used to watch video nasties in the 80's and 90's you could hardly see them lol ) I'm loving the rift so far! it's so amazing i remember being wowed when the Playstation and 3d graphics first appeared but this is in a different league all together, you sometimes cant believe what you are seeing! and the cough cough "Adult Entertainment" well that's worth the £500 price tag alone haha

MrCheis - what app do you use to watch movies and are they standard movies or specifically designed for vr? I had virtual desktop for my dk2 and another cinema app but forget the name

Cheers

Just standard movies in the Cinema theater in Oculus Video :)

you have to drop your videos into your "Videos" folder in windows and they show up then

has anyone got 3d blurays to work is there an app?

Mine arrived yesterday, bought a 970 to tide me over till my 1080 arrives. This is my first experience of VR, totally blown away by the demos. Just grabbing EVE and luckys tale as we speak.

So what are the 'must gets'?

Is it just mine or is the visual quality a bit rubbish? I watched the Baseball thing and the face of someone in the middle of the pitch was just a featureless blob. Anything distant has no definition. In the history of flight distant planes were just vaguely plane shaped blobs. And in any content the pixels are clearly visible.
I simply couldn't watch a 2d video on a cinema environment, there would be no point when I could watch it in many times the quality on a monitor.
How would you describe the visual quality compared to a good monitor?

I had got over the initial nausea by the fourth day but by then the novelty of the 3d-ness had started to wear off.
Paul McCartney talking about the early days of the Beatles was no better than watching that in 2D.
The best thing were the underground bits of Lucky's Tale where everything was small and close up, and that did remain delightful, but if everything has to be like that to look good it rather negates the wider point.

Sooooooooooooo tempted. The vive looks better in my opinion but the key factor.... Space, i nowhere near have the space to get the best out of it... hmmmm decisions decisions.

Also, could i use it as monitor so to speak. So could i stick a blue ray on my pc and watch it through the rift? Quite like the idea of a massive screen.

Why do you think the Vive looks better? Apart from the touch controllers and moving around part which I see as a gimmick really until you can fully walk and move around anyway

Would love to see a knightmare (90 tv show) remake for oculus and vive. That would be awesome :)

Vive to me looks worse, vastly more expensive, has worse visuals marginally and isnt as comfortable to wear and i have yet to see a demo that utilizes room space you can move in as a proper vr title. Just about all of them use teleporting trick or you just stand in one place. Totally renders completely redundant the whole point of having a large room space for the vive.

But in saying that - i dont have a vive thats just going from reviews/youtube vids. A major plus point of the vive is you can actually get one with a few days whereas with oculus who knows when they decide to deliver..

I've plugged mine in for an afternoon at my desk.

Boring. Red isn't enough and after the initial wow, its boring.

Wait til you get room scale on rift. Its the only way I play.

Plenty of games that require room....
