Oculus Rift

It really was a bad post. Ive read it back and haven't a clue. I'm unimpressed with the resolution. So at the desk, it is less impressive than being immersed in room scale stuff where you forget the res issue.

At least I think that was what I was saying.

I have a vive.

Wow. I have just bought the vorpX wrapper and this opens a whole new world of VR!

http://www.vorpx.com/supported-games/

Yes, its not perfect but have tried FEAR and Amnesia and they are rather scary in VR to say the least!

Ohhhh. Not followed vr closely due to lack of titles that I care about. But that link does look awsome. How would something like witcher 3 play and feel I wonder? If the effect with that vorpX wrapper similar to what you get with the few titles out now like EVE?

Witcher doesnt natively support VR yet. You can get it working with VorpX but the driver is a 3d driver mod for none VR games, some have better support than others.

EVE is a flagship title for VR if not the flagship title for VR, so no it won't be similar to what you get with EVE or other games such as Project Cars

There is a video on someone setting up Witcher 3 with the HTC Vive and VorpX wrapper here

Using the wrapper is more like going back to the DK2 in terms of compatibility - in that its 'as is' and something that might take tweaking to get right, may have glitches etc.

Depending on your hardware you also may struggle with none VR games modded for VR with framerate. You really need to maintain 90fps+ to match the headset refresh rate at the headset resolution (2160x1200) otherwise you will induce stutter as frames are dropped

if EVE:Valkyrie is the flagship game for VR then I want my money back, its awful, its so repetitive I didn't manage more than an hour

project cars and warthunder are both massively superior, even Elite Dangerous (which is pretty repetitive itself)

If you want a real flagship VR game then Budget Cuts (even in demo form) is years ahead of EVE

Thanks for the detailed response. Think I will continue mulling over it. Do have a pre-order for augast now but was offered a brand new one at a good price. Looks like I will decline and see how things flesh out over next few months! Thanks

I agree, im just going on what reviews / news is stating. I too much prefer Pcars and Assetto Corsa. I spend a few minutes at most playing EVE before I thought "I have no idea whats going on but it looks quite nice"

Isnt Budget Cuts only HTC Vive? - The main emphasis being on the use of motion controllers

I just tried iRacing in the rift in the williams f1 car, that is some serious racing feeling unbelievable and im getting used to it im not feeling like im going to hurl for at least 4 or 5 laps now haha

My rift arrived a few days ago whilst I was on holiday, about a week before the estimated date. On opening it was obvious it had already been opened, with 2 layers of tape and the internal security tape having been broken. Not sure if this was customs? The remote was also loose inside and found it next to the exposed lenses, hope this hasn't damaged them! Not had a chance to use it yet.

Was there protective film over the lenses?

Sounds more likely that they sent you a customers returned Rift.

I just put my Rift on Ebay, it went for £550 within an hour.
I'm so glad I don't have to sell my Mutron Biphase now.

Thats daft. You will lose money on that after ~15% fees (unless you pulled the sale as 'no longer available' :)

Last time I looked they were still going for around £650.

The good thing about the rift is you can sell in a years time and probably get what you paid for it back. Just sell right - no dead pixels, games included (free downloaded content) etc etc. Hell, I sold my dk2 after 6 months and got +£80 on what I paid for it!

edit - Ill add this question here as I have too many threads open already...

Monitor mirror resolution, does it make a difference to FPS? e.g. Project cars, if i set 640x480 for resoluton its a small window on monitor, will that save much resource over 25640x1440 window? I would ideally like the most FPS on the rift display only as you cant see the monitor - it seems daft to me that mirror is even available as people want the highest fps possible on their HMDs (same goes for all other PC VR I expect)
