Oculus Rift

VR Lens Lab are now selling frames that specifically fit inside VR headsets. Looks like quite a good idea as I'm currently using the adapters and it's a pain having to remove them when family/friends want to try the rift.

I didn't even realise that adaptors were available let alone glasses, will have to look into these.

Nice one

I looked into these when I first got my Rift as I either wear glasses or contacts, but got use to it now, shame there isnt some sort of focusing built into the unit.

A word of warning on the VR Lens Lab lenses - be prepared for major barrel distortion. On the Vive adapters, the lenses are convex i.e. curve towards your eyes rather than away. Might be different on the Rift adapters, but I recommend checking before ordering.

I then ordered these: https://vr-lens.eu
Almost no distortion! They cost less and feel slightly cheaper, but the lenses are the correct way round (concave).

The barrel distortion is only on the adapters without the premium RABS lenses. The VR frames don't have that issue.

I ordered the "premium RABS" lenses after doing some research and reading about the complaints - and yes, it still had tons of barrel distortion I'm afraid. Some people appear to get on better with them, but maybe it depends on the prescription (I'm -3.25 in both eyes). The simple fact is the lenses are fitted the opposite way round to what you'd have in regular glasses (they do this to keep the lenses as close as possible to the HMD lenses without touching), and you're going to get an inverted distortion doing that regardless.

Thank you. Had a good deal on the auction site and bought the touch controllers from the river.

Not run the check utility. Got an i7, gtx1080 and 16gb ram so I am hoping there will be no issues......?

Edit: ran the tool. I'm good to go

Should run nicely, will handle some SS too, I basically settled for 1.6SS for most things and runs nice.

If your planning on playing ED then using through Oculus home solved my audio issue in the headset, I was using sep install previous and couldn't audio through the headphones, video worked perfectly, if you already own it you can get a redeem code to install via oculus.

SS = Super Sampling

Some games have option built in but I tend to disable in game and set from the Oculus Debug Tool, once you're all setup download the latest oculus SDK and just extract it from the tools directory.

If running Windows 10 you can use virtual desktop, not tried it myself yet.

There are virtual movie players but to be honest it's far better for gaming than watching movies, some offer surrounding options like a large theatre or I recall one where your in a boat, very strange.

Ok great cheers. Any other tips?

Can I use my desktop on the rift or would I need an app?

Could I watch a regular film etc?

Personally my face gets hot and my contact lenses complain after half an hour and I need a break so i don't use the virtual desktop. You can use it to watch films and it's lovely, but I only use mine for gaming.
