Oculus Rift

The OTT has a "Reg tweak" in addition to the preventing of sleep mode.

So I just wonder if this "reg edit" really gives it better performance...?

Look forward to your review Dev, if any good I may get one. Post Yootoob link here please!

No idea about the regedit tbh. I'd say give it a go without and see if you're happy. "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" and all that.

Video is just processing, but will be live shortly below in 1080p:

Truer words and all that.
Waiting for the video to upload, look forward to watching it.

Want to say thanks to everyone who responded to my queries to help get the Oculus setup.

This is really what makes these forums great :)

Watched the review. You got the same colour that I did :) I was waiting for your review, but, last week I decided to go ahead and buy anyway. Your one seemed to take an age to arrive. I got mine in 4 days.

The only thing I found with the new cover is that instead of getting marks under my eyes after a VR session, I get marks just over my eyebrows. Still they are much more comfortable, but I will need to get either the lens adapters or the vr frames.

They got here in the end! Spent an hr or so in big screen VR watching films, and I noticed I didn't feel like constantly adjusting the headset like I normally do. It just seemed to fit right. Will have to give it a proper go with some Rec Room or robo recall to see how it handles getting sweaty, but the missus won't have me stomping about above her while she's trying to do her essay this week :/

Nice one Dev. Good review.
Incidentally what makes this cover better than the standard one? Comfort? Less sweat etc? Can wash the cover?

Mostly, the softer fit. The stock foam is durable and functional, but the sharp edges and hard foam got uncomfortable for me over long periods and especially when sweaty. Might just be my face size, but these feel much better. Like having a pillow on your face :) but in a good way.

I presume you can wash the cover, or if going with the leather padding only just dry it with a towel. The fabric cover feels like it'll handle sweat better, but I need to put it through its paces to see if it will turn into a sodden rag or whether it will wick the moisture away.

I've had my VRCover for quite a while now (agree it's much better than the standard one) but when I bought mine there was not a colour choice so I was stuck with black. Really jealous of the red one you got there Devrij, almost makes me want to get another one, almost. :)

I was just thinking the same thing, the Red really lives up the headset.

I wouldn't bother getting the red one, unless you plan to take it out of the headset and hang it up somewhere :)

You can barely see it when you have it installed in the headset.

Got the Startech Card this morning and have spent the day going though the various configurations. Comparing it to the Inateck card and motherboard Ports.

Won't bore you all with the details. I have 3 sensors and tried them in many combinations to try and find the best tracking.

Basically, there is no difference between USB 2 and USB 3 for tracking. Don't waste money buying an expensive card. The problem lies in the USB ports on the motherboard. They aren't all equal. That's why there are so many different stories from people about headsets/sensors working fine in USB 2 and other people saying that they only work in USB 3.0.

After testing all day, I can only conclude that Oculus are playing it safe with their recommendations.

I have even tried all 3 sensors and headset in USB 2, it worked perfectly. But, on my motherboard it won't work if I plug them all into USB 3 ports even though they are two different host controllers.

My advise, try the different combinations on your motherboard before you buy an adapter card, unless you have no spare ports that is. IF it works without headset disconnects or tracking errors then it works. It won't work any better if you use all USB 3.0 ports, or if you buy a better adapter card.

It's more important that you get sensor positioning right.

I wonder if it would make a difference if you were trying to use the Rift in a larger area? The difference between using them on USB 2 and 3 is compression. USB 3 sends the raw image from the sensor to the PC. In USB 2 it sends a jpg compressed image. That might make a difference in a large area where the headset/touch are further away from the cameras where fine detail might be lost/distorted in a jpg, but maybe not so much within a certain range.

Oculus screen crashed on me for the first time, looked identical to this http://i.imgur.com/4mlIbNL.jpg
Had to reinstall nvidia drivers in the end, nothing else would get rid of the corrupted screen. Newest 384 drivers are slower in Assetto Corsa though, so decided to go back to 382.53 and hope this crash was a fluke.

Thanks for the write up Melmac. I've been on the fence about buying the Startech card as although my tracking is more or less ok I do now and then still get small micro jumps in my head and hand tracking but nothing bad enough to be an issue when playing (never had any disconnects, although had some tracking failures).
This is with my headset and sensors being spread across an Inatek card and my Motherboard ports and from what you've written I would probably not see an improvement with the Startech card.

Interesting - thank you melmac
I've got to start using the headset more instead of obsessing over the setup details!
