Oculus Rift

So i went on the Vive today. Its the first time I've gone on VR and was pretty impressed. I really liked the controllers and tracking seemed to be good.

some really minor niggles
- the screen occasionally got blurry, im not sure why or if its game specific... its like the screen would lose focus or something.
- I found trying to read certain text in game quite hard, but again i think this is mostly game related. I do think a resolution bump would help. Some things like a ship i was looking at looked beautiful and ugly at the same time.
- the headstrap was not very good, when playing the escape room game where I had to bend not meant the thing would nearly fall off. I played on and off for an hour and the thing was uncomfortable.

In comparison, what is the Oculus like... Id like to jump in on VR and have a 980ti so could run one. I can't buy just yet as Ive just bought a switch, so hope the price stays relatively the same for a while as the current £399 is the right price for me.
How does ther resolution compare, the controllers, and the comfortability

Never tried the Vive so I cant compare but the blurriness or loss of focus was probably caused by it not being secure. When I put the headset on it will be out of focus until you find the sweet spot, so having a loose strap would mean youre in and out of the swwet spot. The text can be a bother as resolutions aren't ideal yet so probably best if you change your desktop font size to medium if you have it on small. The strap can become uncomfortable after a while as well as sweaty but there are covers you can buy to help.

And finally yes id recommend although it may be a good idea to see if you suffer from VR sickness like me which means you'll have to miss out on the more adventurous titles.

Resolution is the same between the headsets, but the perceived resolution is very so slightly higher with the Rift due to a slight difference in optics. If you look at sim racing sites/videos, they generally use Rifts for sim racing instead of a Vive.

The Rift is more comfortable and has built in headphones (you can get the same with the Vive for an extra £100), and the Touch controllers just flat out beat the Vive wands unless you really, really want trackpads.

Headset preference really is a personal thing. The latest episode of VR Roundtable has a relevant discussion between two of the hosts (they each own both) as to which headset they prefer. One prefers the Rift, the other the Vive, though the one who still picks the Vive had a bad Rift experience initially due to being unlucky and receiving a faulty headset. Worth a watch though.

I took advantage of the free weekend of Landfill but now its over I'm not gonna buy it and have uninstalled it yet its still in my library (albeit uninstalled). Any way of getting rid of it?

Not that I'm aware. It would be useful to be able remove stuff from your uninstalled list though - I have plenty of things I've looked at in the past that really don't need to be there.

any ocuk vr groups around. need more friends. got 2 weeks off work, went for a game of eleven: table tennis and no one to play with.

There are a few of us who get together regularly. SupraWez, FlukeRogi, Rocksteady, Devrij and Myself. I like Eleven Table Tennis, so I would be up for a game or two any time you are around. My steam username is Melmac, It's the profile with the black and white counterstrike profile photo and the Irish flag.

We mainly play Dead and Buried, Rec Room and Star Trek Bridge crew, but are always on the lookout for more multiplayer games :)

Already friends with you on the rift. Waiting for others to accept. Don't have star trek and yet to play D & B, put on rec room yesterday for the first time so happy to join but more for social than to show off my skills. Date night tonight but hopefully get on later if theres any night owls amongst you. As I said got two weeks off so the best time for me to play.

You will have to be friends with me on Steam if you want to play table tennis :)

Folks, how do I add you to my friends list? Steam or Oculus?

Both is probably the best, as people tend to have a split games collection between the two (and Steam is really the only way to shoot off a quick message to someone). If you want to add me, I'm FlukeRogi on Steam, and just Fluke on Oculus Home.
