Oculus Rift

Soooo I've got my finger over the buy button but in reality someone like me with a GTX 970 should bother with it? Or should I save up for a new gfx card first?

Depends a bit what you're playing. For say Elite: Dangerous you'd struggle with performance, for many if not most other games you'd be okay. Also, depends a bit on how sensitive you are to VR sickness, which you don't know until you try of course. I can apparently tolerate a low frame rate myself.

Mostly driving sims and maybe the occasional flight sim. Not prone to motion sickness that was proven when I went deep sea fishing once and I was the only one not to lose my breakfast ha

My 7950 runs everything well enough to play although steams vr room is a bit stuttery but I am running at 0.5 :D just need vega to hurry up so I can decide red or green.

I must say I enjoy seeing the first reactions. Also, we may even get enough people to do a full 5vs5 Rec Room paintball match. Poor buggers that get me on their team

Stock seems to be widely available again so I've just ordered one for delivery tomorrow to replace my Rift DK2, looking forward to seeing the (albeit relatively marginal) improvements. Do we have a steam group or similar set up for Rec Room nonsense? :)

I recently made this journey from the DK2. To manage expectations, don't expect to be blown away by the improvement in the image quality (although the CV1 is better). What really makes it worth the jump is seeing your hands come to life in VR via the Touch controllers.

There are a few of us who get together to play some Rec Room quests, Star Trek Bridge Crew and other games. Add your steam and oculus ID to the list and add the people in the first post to your Steam and Oculus friends.

I have to say - WOW - finally had the time off to plug it in and turn it on. Thought it was a bit blocky and stuff at first but then it's like that goes away and you're pulling robots apart and standing on buildings and stuff :D have only played a bit of Robo Recall and gone through the dreamdeck demo and it's already blown my tiny mind.

I just bought the Rift and also use a GTX 970 - Haven't had any major issues yet. I've had to turn the details down in a couple of games, but for the most part the experience has been incredible. Highly Recommended :D

Had a day off yesterday so decided to change up my computer room to make more space for VR. The change was inspired by the pictures in the "show us your setup thread"

So I spent the day moving stuff around, cleaning and tidying. At first I was really happy with the results to look at, So much room now for VR!! But then I realised that I am an idiot :p

I have cleared a lovely large square space in the centre of the room and the 3 sensors are covering it perfectly. The first problem is that when I am sitting at my computer desk, I won't be able to use VR. There is no way to configure the sensors to see the desk and the play area.

Which leads to the second problem, I completely forgot about the length of the headset cable! DOH :D Because the computer is so far away I can't even use half the space I freed up. LOL I have now less space to play in than before I started.

I will be stuck like this for at least a week until I can get some cable extensions. I have ordered 2 USB extension cables and a HDMI extensions cable. Just hope the work with the Rift. Reviews seem to be pretty positive. And I am also buying a retractable cable management system, that hangs from your ceiling. Will be interested to see how that works:)

And I am also going to get a fourth sensor. My room is all nice and tidy now, but, MY OCD is going crazy because there is a sensor in each corner apart from one. It just doesn't look right :p
