Oculus Rift

I thought I had enough VR experience to give driving games another go. Fired up dirt rally and made it about a full minute before I had to lie down. It didn't help that I've gotten really bad at it and rolled the car down a hill several times. I think I might need to just keep it in first gear and drive around slowly until I get my feet.

FWIW, I have a couple of racing buddies that can do proper endurance races no problem in VR with RF2/Assetto etc, but they also find that Dirt Rally can make them nauseous in no time.

Well I might give assetto a go, but I know pcars also made me ill when I first tried it. I think I just need to take it slow

Yeah, like I said, Assetto did me in at first too, but it's all cool now. Just gotta build up a bit of resistance like you do with the other types of movement.
Probably best to stick with the flatter circuits in relatively slower cars at first :D

Fiat 500 and Mazda mx5 at Valelunga were all I drove in AC in VR to begin with. After that became comfortable, everything else did too. Lateral g's in VR made me sick the most - like Maggots_Becketts in Silverstone, so the less gs your car pulls, the better. In the beginning of course :) Now drifting and openwheelers are an absolutely awesome experience without any sideffects :)

This may have been answered but how well does the rift work with a 970?

Don't have a 970 (never have) but it should be mostly okay. Depends a lot what you want to play on it, and in general you wouldn't be able to increase the supersampling much if at all.

Feeling blessed no driving games at all have made me sick, even the crazy elevations on dirt rally have been fine.

Using an Open wheel formula car on Assetto Cords really is amazing in VR.

Has anyone played Lone Echo? Absolutely brilliant game with real AAA polish and story telling. One of the best games I've played this year.

Lone Echo is hands down one of the most amazing gaming experiences I've had - and I've been gaming since the very early days of computer games back in the 70's.

The way the robots arms mimic yours is amazing, as are the various gadgets, controls and UIs that you activate by using the in-game holographic system. It all feels so natural using the touch controllers. After a while you almost forget the controllers are in your hand and it feels like you're using your real hands to grab onto things. I even find myself grabbing floating objects and throwing them out of the way without thinking.

I've not finished it yet, as I'm taking my time to explore, but I'm sure I'll be playing it through again once I have.

It's a big shame this game hasn't had as much publicity as it should. It's as good as any AAA title, and incredibly innovative.

Thanks. Would love to give Alien Isolation a go, and Resident Evil if it ever comes out on the rift

I ordered a rift and a GTX 1080 on Saturday, I don't think my current GTX 660 will quite cut it! Surprisingly I got an email from DPD saying it's coming tomorrow, I was expecting Wednesday (free next day delivery, ordered around 7pm Saturday, bank holiday today), I've already installed the Oculus software, made an account and downloaded a couple of free things from the store. I told myself I'm not going to buy any games for it for at least a month, seeing as it comes with some games and there's a lot of free stuff, then I accidentally spent almost a whole day going down the YouTube rabbit hole, there's so much I want to try as soon as I get it, sweviver made me regret not getting one sooner, that guy loves VR, I just hope he hasn't set my expectations too high!

It's going to be tough taking it slow to start with to make sure I don't get ill, I can imagine loosing a few days in something like this, I think I'm more excited than the kids!

Ordered myself one yesterday too, not sure how well my system will cope given it's specs (2500k GTX 970 8GB) but should be okay for less demanding stuff. Don't think it'll be up to running Elite Dangerous sadly though :(

I've played elite on a 7950, think it depends on your expectations. Really want lone echo but don't want to spoil it while i wait for gpus to get sensible!

You'll be alright. One of my mates plays ED in VR with a 970 and a similar CPU (can't remember which) and he's always telling me how awesome it is :)

It will be fine oculus asw is very good at smoothing out low fps. Having a better gpu just means you can run more supersampling. My dad's using an AMD FX 8320 with a 980ti and he can play every game with 1.5 super sampling no problem.

Had this bad boy since Thursday, my sessions are lasting longer and I feel as though I'm getting over the illness...I hope. Robo Recall is still my favourite VR game (though I'm yet to buy SuperHot and Lone Echo), an it's definitely my go to game to show off friends and family. That said I just spent 2 hours straight on the 'Bullets and More VR' demo, it made me very disoriented at 1st, and I needed to shut my eyes a few times, especially climbing up ladders, also my room scaling cameras needs adjusting, but wow that game is so good, the weapons training in particular was incredible, going back to non VR FPS's and reloading by pressing R just seems boring now, the whole reloading a gun manually by putting a new magazine in and cocking back a pistol blew me away. I havnt even played online yet, just with bots, but it was still awesome!

I now want to see a full on polished AAA online shooter with the reload feature Bullets and More has. Fingers crossed it comes, and quick!
