Oculus Rift

In need of some help here :(

New purchase, and I cannot get the HDMI to detect. Running a EVGA 1080 and a brand new gigabyte z170x-Gaming 7 (after killing my last board with a bios update thinking that was my problem.

I've tried everyone one of the USB ports, my HDMI port is working as it will fire up my monitor.

Is it DOA perhaps?

Stupid question but is the cable securely fixed to the Rift headset? Check behind the foam and make sure it is connected correctly

Yeah firmly in and I get the orange light on the indicator. Think I may pop by work and borrow a hdmi->display port adaptor and see if that makes a difference.

I don't think it's DOA. Managed to get a white light on it from my laptop before it probably realised the 970m is not up to the task.
Just saw this post. I hear the HDMI out on older laptops can't be used with a Rift. Something along the lines of the 970m processing the image but it being fed through the integrated GPU before being output.
My laptop would detect the Rift itself, but I wouldn't be able to see an image when wearing the Rift.

EDIT: VR ready laptop certification was partly because of this

@Itchytrigg
A friend of mine installed an EVGA 1080 today and ended up with his Rift not being recognised too.
We got it sorted, but we're not 100% on what the issue was.

He'd updated his bios (he's on Z97) and it wasn't until he reloaded his saved OC profile that the Rift would show up. We tried everything else, like switching ports, checking the Rift cable at both ends etc...
Try looking to see if your X16 slots are set to gen3 (I know, why?) and that USB power options are set to never sleep. I'll see if I can get more info.

I also believe he had it working at first with whatever the on disc drivers are, but when he updated to the latest ones, things went south. He rolled back to 387.92 before reloading the OC profile.

Yeah cable is fine. On my laptop, I managed to get the white light so the rift and cable are good. So something on my PC is the issue. I'm thinking its the hmdi port or software/drivers at this stage.

Your Rift is connected to the HDMI port, and another port is in use on the graphics card for your monitor yeah? You need to actively use the graphics card before the Rift can use it too (if your monitor is running off the motherboard and only the Rift is connected on the HDMI, it won't work). Also, HDMI is the recommended type of connection, you'd only want to add an adapter if you have no other choice. Adapters are better left to use for your monitor(s) as needed.

Both monitor and rift were plugged into the graphics card, monitor on DP and rift on HDMI. I borrowed a HMDI to DP adaptor from work very happy to report....IT WORKS!!!!! Guess the HDMI port is not a high enough version, can run my monitor though.

Only ran the setup but wow....was not expecting it to be quite that good. So looking forward to trying it out more this afternoon, just downloading the 6 included title and a couple of freebies I saw that looked interesting.

I'm using a 4K TV instead of a monitor, so I use this adapter on the Rift:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015FM3SRE/

I did think about buying a more expensive adapter to use with my TV instead, but it's working like this so far
I'm having trouble using my 4k monitor through a DVI to HDMI adapter (flickering etc). Does this work well at 4k/60 or have you only tried it with the Rift?

Got a weird one in my rift.
Whenever I fire it up, it's started to display a semi-transparent touch controller to the lower right of my vision. It's in both game and out of game. Bit odd as I don't even have any touch controllers.
Anyone know how to disable it?

Is this with the normal Home software or the new Core 2.0 / Dash beta?

my brother had this issue, until he got touch for xmas. He used to use the little pebble shaped controller and do something, will ask when i see him.

Is the teleportation method of movement normal? Robo recall, steam VR and blade runner all used it and I find it a little disorientating especially in a faster paced environment like robo recall. Is this just because moving with a thumb stick would increase the change of motion sickness?

The BBC ISS experience is fantastic, I did NOT have to grab my desk to stop myself falling over......not at all......

Yeah the teleportation is to prevent motion sickness.
I'm not really a fan of it either, I just don't find it intuitive, but at the same time I know I wouldn't be able to handle full locomotion yet.
As you mentioned, when it gets frantic in games like Robo Recall I can end up getting turned around and facing the wrong way.

Some games have it as standard, I don’t really like it, it kills the immersion for me, other games have multiple loco offerings, for me, I use smooth locomotion, where you control you movement with the analogue stick, in the same way you would do on standard control pad, on various forums you will see it being referred to ‘Onward style locomotion’ it took me about an hour of getting used to it, it really sent my head spinning at first! Get yourself Pavlov £4 or Bullets and More £6 (my fave VR shooter) and that will give your VR legs and get you used to smooth locomotion, as well as owning a fine vr online shooter
