Oculus Rift

I always close the Oculus app when not using the headset. If the app is open then the headset goes into a more active standby where it'll turn on almost instantly when you put it on, but that draws more power. A by-product of that standby is it keeps the headset lenses warm so they don't fog up, so it's useful to open the app about 10 mins before you want to use the headset to avoid fogging.

As Uncle Petey says, you can actually ignore the setup recommendations and get good tracking. I've had to do that for my Attic room setup as I have to have the third sensor in a slightly less ideal position due to where the door to the stairs is located, but I still get excellent tracking.

So the 2 sensors that I put up high do I put them on the same wall?

For a front facing setup yes. For a 360 degree two sensor setup (which is experimental and not guaranteed to work) you need to put them up so they form the opposite diagonal corners of a rectangle. You may need extension cables for this.

Yeah I will do what you guys said then 3 metres apart pointing down into the play area. I have ordered the extension cables and brackets so hopefully it will all turn up tomorrow.

How high should I go with the sensors? all the way up to ceiling?

Noticed you'd got the golf, you like it.

I think there's a tiny bit of a disconnect at times when shot taking with an iron, and there's a way to go with the putting with the contours of the green needing to be a little more pronounced. But early access and all that, it should get refined some.

I am really liking it. It's a fun game, technical enough to require a bit of skill, but not overboard to drive you nuts!! Yes, I agree there is a few areas that they need to improve in the game. Sometimes the iron shots slice from time to time, going a completely different direction than they should. And putting is annoying because it's so hard to read the green even when pressing "Y" And also because it's very hard to judge the power. Sometimes you do a little tip and the ball just shoots off like lightening!!

But other than those few niggles it's really enjoyable. Looks good, courses are nicely designed and the mini putt course is a nice little add on.

Heys guys how do I switch the sound on this thing?

I'm sure it's in the menu's somewhere but I can't see it.

I already have proper 5.1 suround sound setup in my play space so would rather use that than these headphones.

EDIT: hey found it was under devices rift.

Going to go try some robo recalll.

I have played a few games of robo recall today without the headphones and I much prefer it.

Using the surround sound system instead straight away I noticed I actually feel like I am standing outside, it was quite creepy.

It's probably because I never where headphones or hats or anything so having my ears covered feels unnatural to me.

But, do you not have a problem when you turn that sounds that should be coming from one side are now coming from the wrong place? That would do my head in!! :D

Lol no it don't do that.

You turn your head and the sounds still come from the right direction.

I will test some more later I only had a few games. I have put the sensors high up on the wall now. Just waiting for the exstension leads to turn up today and I can do some propper full room stuff.

Errr no, in real life if a sound coming from a car is in front of me and I turn myself to the left the car wouldn't of moved to still be in front of me it would be coming from my right ;)

LOL, but that's what I mean. Because your speakers are orientated so that you are facing the monitor when using them, but in VR, front is what ever way you are facing. And then there is the problem with sounds from above and below. I should test it myself lol, I am so lazy.

So I just done the recalibration with my sensors up on the wall and it seems much better now so thanks for the help, both sensors can see me everywhere and I no longer get any iffy bits near the sides or turning around or up high.

I have went for 7 foot by 8 foot area it seems pretty good. I have been quite conservative with my gaurdian boundary so I know if need be I can stick my hand through the boundary a little if needed.

I do have room to go a little bigger without much trouble I could do 7.5x10 feet, but will probably stick with this for now.

There is an app called sensor bounds on the Oculus Store, Sorry, completely forgot to tell you this earlier. It's pretty good for showing exactly what areas the sensors cover.

Probably a little late lol :p

Thanks I will check it out.

I don't suppose you know how high I can turn up the pixel density on robo recall? I have a gtx 1080 and wondered if turning it up higher would look better.

Robo Recall is pretty intense. Are you running super sampling using Oculus tray tool? If not then you should be able to run it around 1.4, 1.5.
